I've been getting "unknown problem" on login since maintenance 1st April. I find that after any maintenance period I can log into the game once, with no issues. Then if I exit the game, doesn't matter if crash or graceful shutdown, I will fail login every single time after that with "unknown problem". But as noted after a maintenance period I can login again once, there were lots of maintenances last week so I found I could log in once per day, but presently I haven't been able to log in since Friday.
However, I CAN log in if I use a proxy server, and it works fine if I use one in my city, in the US, or Canada. Login works every time, but being fairly heavily loaded it causes large lag spikes that result in heavy rubber banding and freezes at times.
I have tried the following:
1. Switched to Googles DNS servers (which caused RSS errors on the launcher when I tried on Saturday...)
2. Switched to the DNS servers the proxy provides
3. Run the repair tool
4. Installed MWO fresh (and for the first time) on a separate computer, same issues
5. Verified firewall off on computer and router
6. Switched off antivirus (was having no effect before patch on the 1st)
7. Contacted support
8. Reset internet settings in Windows
Per 7 I contacted support with all of this info, I got a reply at 8:25 the next day asking to reset internet settings, which I did and posted back. It's been 4 days now with no update, 2 if the weekend is subtracted. I've offered to assist with trace routes or any other diagnostics that are required to troubleshoot this issue, and directly asked to be put in contact with someone willing to troubleshoot this problem with me, is this possible?
Is anyone able to shed any light on what the problem is?

Brand/model of router/gateway/modem? Reset router/modem/gateway? Connect directly to modem?
Location?
Also, have you tried using VPN for troubleshooting purposes?
