That's a Union model. The Overlord would be an impressive sight on the map. Perhaps one crash land into a city creating varying levels to fight on with bridges, ramps, walls and debris. With Assault mode, some of the turret guns can be on the Overlord. Wow (daydreaming..)

yeah would love to see this stuff in game, traveling from desk to mechbay whilst looking out into space if you're a merc or the hanger we have now and an office looking out into a training field if you're a faction player etc. saddly mwo is lightyears away from that level of immersion.

Clans and IS mechs on the same team should add to the immersion, no?

Be great to have a map where the dropship doors open letting you out at the start.

You know what would be awesome with "The Plan"? A flow chart. All in one place. So I don't have to click through 30 sub menus to find the status of everything. It's like they created UI 2.0.

The Lights will rush out first like anxious little kids.
The Meds and Heavies will shoulder, shove and curse each other trying to get the hell out of the airlock.
The Assaults can only stand right behind impatiently, "Are you guys done yet?"
The Blakes will break and start shooting at their rears.

That's just silly.

It's a stage painting. There is no outside.

You know that Odd ring in the Middle of Tourmaline?

That's an Overlord dropship remains...

Nope.

Quote

The derelict, ovoid dropship was a 52000 ton Mammoth class cargo carrier. This behemoth lays half buried with its bones jutting into the sky, sand blasted and corroded; slowly being consumed by the blowing, glass-like sand over the past two centuries.

At 52000 tons it's over 5 times the weight of an Overlord class dropship (9700 tons). The Overlord is said to be 99 meters wide, the Mammoth 277m. So it would be a lot smaller.

Greetings all,

Reference the debut trailer compared to our "in-Game" Mech Lab.

There are similar items displayed on the back wall, and the floor in the Mech Lab does have the same opening grid area.

The video indicates this is an aerodyne vessel either holding altitude or in some mode of flight transition. Having drop doors in the bottom of the ship, this rules out most standard Drop Ship designs. And from the size of the interior of the video and the Mech Lab it only has space for 4 Mech's, which is exactly in line with the players "Drop Ship Mode".

The vessels that could stand in for this design are the:

- Leopard (2537yr) [standard BattleMech Transport]
* 4 Mechs, 2 Fighters
* Armed with: 2 PPC, 3 LRM20, 7 ML, 5 LL

- Clans ~ Broadsword (2979yr) [standard Clan 5 Mech Transport]
* 5 Mechs
* Armed: 2 ERLL. 2 ERPPC, 8 MPL, 5 SPL, 1 AMS, 5 LRM20 w/Art.IV, 2 SSRM6

There is also the modular "Aurora" aerodyne but it is not available till 3062, it can be loaded for 4 Mech transport or outfitted for mixed Mech / Aerofighters / groundforces, but does not have launch bays for the fighters.
The Leopard drop ship would probably be as the MWO concept art indicates, with the Clan Broadsword forgoing the fighter launch bays to fit in the additional 5th Mech.

From the video we see an Atlas being dropped and showing some form of Jump Jets, this indicates the Mechs can or are mounted with Jump Packs.
Ref: For 'Mechs that do not fit jump jets, a 'Mech Jump Pack may be mounted externally to the rear of a 'Mech to provide limited jump capability or braking thrust to allow a 'Mech to be dropped.

So, the ship that we see in-game could easily be a landed Leopard class unit, or when we get to Planetary Warfare these same elements could serve as "Near Ground" drop ships for assault or covert missions. Bryan had mentioned that he would like to see an actual "in-game transition from ship to ground" play as the map is in it's loading screen. Providing more emersion for the pilot entering combat. We shall see, if that can be modeled and accomplished.

Cross game inspiration is both a good thing and a bad thing. I would like to see "limited" MMO elements brought in. For instance, take the Hangar in Star Citizen. I'd LOVE to be able to walk around "my" hangar, walk up to the holotable in front of the mechbay and scroll through my mechs, do some reconfigurations.... Then walk over to my weapons testing bay and fire off a few rounds. Or simply head into my apartments and log off for the day/night/hour/minute.... Lots of microtransaction opportunities in this as well....
