Let's not, Alpine is so large that neither side starts with a distinct advantage, you can't see each other, having control of that peak does not guarantee you will win, and even if you could, the distance is too far to reliably hit anyone. That is not the case in River city, you start out close enough that you can be hit by direct-fire weapons, and because convergence is instantaneous, the odds of taking a large amount of damage right out of the drop is very likely. No other map starts you in plain sight of your opponents, nor does any other map start you with an advantage that can be exploited immediately after drop. This needs to be fixed.

It's funny, actually- Karl Berg recently confirmed that the win rate on alpine is within a percent of being even for both sides. He and everyone in the thread was in disbelief, but the numbers did not lie.

I'm sure you can guess the thread. Here's the post, and a quote for the lazy:

Usually I am not a fan of complaints. This one... Although I can live with being in a HOT LZ sometimes... it does seem to happen quite a bit. There cannot be that many crappy dropship captains in space!

uhm if you read his post it sounds strongly like he's referring to an old data mining that they had done.
"I recall clearly when we last did this particular data-mining operation. I was myself convinced that the lower-base team on Alpine enjoyed a considerable positional advantage based on our 8-man drops, so I was very much ready to run over to the level designers and go 'HAA!! SEE!'. Cruelly it was not meant to be. The stats showed the upper base team won basically just as often as it lost, to within 1% or so. I'm no statistician, so I won't try and tell you what the confidence interval on that was, but considering the sample size it has to be pretty darn good."
He doesn't say we just did a data mining op, he says last time
He was sure the LOWER based team had an advantage. This is contrary to what people claim now with the H9 hill.
8 mans.
He also isn't replying to something about Alpine just something about stats meaning his talk about it really could be non relevant to what we think about Alpine now

I think there's an error in the data gathering.
On Assault, the players that spawn in the NE base have the advantage.

Charlie+Bravo lance are usually the first to reach H9 when directed.
On Skirmish, the players that spawn in the Northern base have the advantage.

Alpha (with JJs) + Bravo lance of the Northern side are usually going to get to that point faster than the enemy.
That's how you "skew" the data.
Conquest is another matter altogether.

Don't tell me, I didn't do the survey. Tell Karl! He's actually shown that he's willing to listen to people who have concerns, and is indeed very interested in methodology and process.
