Medium Pulse lasers are expensive and you're better off with 2 Medium Lasers then 1 Medium Pulse Laser.
When you need to get more Medium Laser out of a finite number of energy slots it does work out though.

I have 75 mechs and none of them use MPL's as their main weapon, even though I have many many laser boats. In my opinion they're in a very tough spot because:
- If I use them in my lights, then doubled tonnage quickly takes its toll, costing me heatsinks, jumpjets, armor while giving me more heat and reducing my range significantly.
- If I use them in my mediums, then they'll mostly be secondary weapons complementing heavier SRMs, LL/PPCs and ACs. For that role ML's are suited better, because I want my secondary weapons to be as cool and light as possible. As a primary weapon, they're still not worth it over ML's for the same reasons I mentioned for lights.
- For heavies&assaults, there are some uses simply because the tonnage is not that much of a problem anymore. You can do goofy fast builds like 21xDHS 7xMPL but you gimp yourself so much in range and heat department that it's simply better to bring a few LPL's instead.

Just.. too.. hot..
If you use them like normal M-Laser, e.g. usually 2-4 as a bundle, you cant have enough heatsinks to use that fire rate.
2 tons: Double weight means, better take a normal and another Heatsink.
