What is the difference between MC and the in-game currency?
are there some things you can't buy with MC or the IGC?

Yes, in general, the following are MC only items (will wait for those much wiser than me to add to/clarify this, but this is a start).

Premium time
Mechbays
Colors/skins (basic colors are available for C-Bills)
Hero mechs
Champion mechs

You missed that Basic Colors are aviable for C-Bills

but thats basicaly it.

MC is purchased with real life money (Dollars for example)

C-Bills are earned by playing the game. You can use MC to purchase mechs, however you can't upgrade those mechs without C-Bills. Basically MC is a time saver, it won't actually help you win the game.

Hero and champion mechs (along with a couple consumable modules) can be bought with MC only. While regular mechs can be bought with both.

it is generally considered a bad idea to use MC to buy regular non-hero or non-champion mechs.


MC can also be used to purchase cosmetics, such as colors, paint schemes, and cockpit items, however it can also be used to purchase Mechbays, which is necessary if you want to own more than 4 mechs simultaneously.

MC can also be used to convert XP earned on a specific mech into GXP

and you cannot earn MC as far as I know. it can only be bought.

EDIT: forgot about Premium time (50% C-bills and XP gain)

Yup.

There are 5-6 basic CBill colors. Otherwise, MC only for:
Paint/Skins
Champion and Hero mechs
Premium Time
Mechbays

Consumables you can buy with MC can also be upgraded with GXP to where the CB ones are the same. Other mechs you can buy with CB or MC.

By the way, I will recommend that when you find a chassis that you really like and won't mind playing for extended periods of time, to see if their hero is a mech you will like.

Go to smurfy's to find out the exact specs of each mech in the game, including heros.
(Hero mechs come with a life-time 30% C-Bill earning bonus)

You can earn through MWO's occasional contests such as "Mediums Against the World." You have to get within the top 3 of a category though to do that.

is MC (paid currency), and is c-bills (IGC).

There are 5-6 basic CBill colors. Some non- skins (none currently available at the moment but more to come after Community Warfare is released as something to 'unlock').

For the following items, here's a bit of clarification on what they are.
Champion mechs: Basically mechs with a number of upgrades, sometimes expensive engines, with an experience boost. A paid shortcut for what you'd otherwise get for "IGC" or .

Hero mechs: Unique variant; usually combines traits of two or more other c-bill variants and then slaps in a weakness occasionally. Comes with a 30% bonus for each match it is used in.

Premium Time: 50% and XP and GXP bonus + more options in private matches (when private matches become available on the 29th).

Mechbays: Unfortunately a near requirement of long term enjoyment. These can occasionally be earned with recent "5 win" challenges that are designed to up player numbers.

Consumables (under modules) have slightly better versions available for , but with some grinding you can get near-equal to superior quality with .
