I generally find the forums to be toxic and that affects my perception and enjoyment of MWO. Thats a problem. When so many people come the forums to get info and hang with the community and instead find all this childish negativity, it affects their perception of MWO as a whole. The forums are having to serve as the community's chat lobby. When every thought and opinion is posted and replyable for months and many topics end with an arguement spawning more argument threads.. thats an issue. The moderators should not be in the business of locking and closing so many threads. Restructuring the forums is a good idea but the real answer is to finally put up a chat lobby or some central venue for all players to chat, vent, recruit, and discuss without spawning hate replies. When the chat lobby comes sometime this year, it will take all that heat off the forums and moderators and the forums will become more for information, discussion and feedback and less for derailed, bickering threads.

Ditto.
I like to think of myself as pretty knowledgeable about upcoming features and this is completely news to me

Although, if we were, I'd like to think it'd help with all of the OPs points. Not to mention, moderation of a chat room is so easy script-kiddies from the 90s can do it in their sleep!

But if there was a chat lobby then I might miss out on all the trolling!
