As the OP stated, he spotted them moving through open terrain and the LRMs took out accordingly. As they should. But If the enemy team had not of done that and instead stick to cover, the outcome could have (and very possibly would have) ended very differently.
What cover? Its flaming Alpine Peaks, a map that should have been removed from the rotation the moment they buffed missile speeds. This is a map where LRM boats have it all their own way.
There is simply insufficient cover in the map to approach either base without being barraged. NONE. Mountain ranges don't protect you against LRMs, not especially when there are spotters, and the boats can simply reposition themselves in most cases.
The only counter to LRM boats in this infernal map are PPC snipers which is yet another problem of its own. Brawler builds are completely boned in this map. If you're unlucky enough to drop with a team that is mostly setup for close range skirmishes like that Atlai team, you're pretty much boned. Heck, all that ECM didn't save them...not when Tag had its range buffed a while back. That was fine back than when LRMs were useless but maybe they should look into cutting back its range again.
Its been said before - LRM boats are OVERPOWERED in the current meta. Even if you agree that the LRMs need a buff, there's no sane way you can look at the assaults with 4 LRM10/15 racks and think there's nothing wrong with them.
I thought PGI is trying to discourage boating? Why are LRM boats excluded? No, ghost heat doesn't affect LRMs. Chain fire doesn't affect LRMs as badly as other weapons.
