So I'm looking at my first Assault-class mech, trying to decide what I want.

After playing my Jug 9S since it was given away, I've really grown to like weapons mounted up high on the shoulders, as I've really taken to a terrain-trolling playstyle. After playing American tanks in World of Tanks for years, it came naturally.

So that leaves me with 3 choices, really.

BattleMaster 3M, Battlemaster 3S, Stalkers.

Among these, which would you go for?

The BattleMaster 3M comes woth DHSs out of the box, but so does the Stalker 5M. I'm not overly fond of missiles but they can be fun. I generally like to stay with 2 weapons groups because I only have a 2-button mouse.

I also have been playing a Catapult K2 and I'm worried that, like the Catapults, the Stalker might be ridiculously easy to core?

What say you all?

if you don't mind slow then the Stalker is a great tank - i think they make better LRM boats because of their speed though since you want to stay back a little to be able to react to trouble

if you prefer speed then the BLRs are fantastic - leveling up the 1D right now. the 3M has torso penalties so if you like more maneuverability stick with the 3S. i'm leveling the 3 BLRs with no penalties (3S, 1D, 1S) since i want to take care of myself in case of marauding lights

You want a Stalker-3F with DHS and a 300 STD. That will cost just under 11 million.

I suggest the Battlemasters.
They offer a many more different kinds of set ups, though the only Stalker with Ballistic Points is the Champion (Misery), which you gotta pay real money for.
They are fun to play, they give you many different possiblities (Missile Boat, Laser Boat, brawler, sniper...also 3 AC2 is no problem, and also a mix of all of them!)

I am interested in the Stalker, too, but when i take a closer look at the hardpoints, its all (except the misery) just energy and missile points in thousand of variants and i am afraid that it would get really boring to master them...

PS: The Torso Energyslots of the Battlemaster are very high, that is what you want :( (I use them usually for 4 Large Lasers, Hills are welcome!:D)
