So as many new people visit the group I am in, we notice alot of terms they do not quite understand. I will offer some guidance below on one of the key terms you will hear in this game.

META: Typically the main builds you will see it competitive mech warrior online drops. These are constantly mech builds that are relevant at each phase while the game evolves. As weapons get tweaked or nerfed, and pilots come and go, these builds change for each group.

A great example right now is LRM mechs (Long Range Missle focused builds). A few months back, not alot of these around. With a speed tweak and adjustment, you are seeing quite a few more of these now in 4 man and 12 man drops.

Although the LRMs are becoming more common, the main META is still LRDF (Long Range Direct Fire). Weapons like ER Large Laser, Gauss, PPCs, and ERPPCs comprise most of this idea. These type of weapons can shoot at you from long distances away (800 meters +) and get damage against your mech when possibly your weapons are not withing range to do any damage.

Over time you will see the same mech with the same weapons in several different matches. This may be a META mech. For a single example I will speak on the Dual Gauss loaded Catapult or Jagermech which is common at the moment. These offer a dsignificant amount of damage at close range, but also carrier a decent burst of damage at long range with a dual blasting Gauss shell. If you find a decent sniper they can hit the same spot on the mech from 800m out consistently and punch a hole through it or take out a torso hoping for an XL engine to pop your mech if you are not paying attention and continue to stand around when they line up their sights on your chassis.

Avoidance: The biggest thing to do against the META right now is use Cover. Avoid line of site to the distant ends of the maps unless your a light mech that is scouting. If you are heavy, or generally slow let your teams light mechs (scouts) spot those threats and help the main team avoid that fire line. Try to stay out of direct line of site from that enemy and attempt to flank from the sides or move around behind them. What is likely to be multiple direct fire threats against your team usually position together around heavier targets, so generally speaking never consider them to be alone, unless you know for sure the enemy team is else where and you found a straggler. Use cover when you move, or huge cover when you are running. Assaults should try to move up to engage the enemy in a brawl and mitigate their long distance threat focusing on the biggest threats first like a heavy LRM Stalker, Dual Gauss, or Dual AC20 mech. If you have a light with ECM and jump jets, encourage them to position in upper regions of the map and spot for LRM boats on your team, or atleast give guidance as to where the enemy is and where they are moving. The light should avoid pot shots at targets which gives away their position if they can instead get eyes on with out being seen and allow your LRM mechs to rain free damage. Focus heavy LRM and Dual Gauss mechs first, fire on the other Long Range threats next.

I encourage all "veterans" to post some more tips on this thread with accronyms, tips, tricks, and hints for new players to get involved easier at the start of an extended learning curve. I am glad to say this game is not even close to the learning curve on Eve for a new player, but its still rough if its a player that has no expierence in FPS games and are simply looking around for interested Free to Plays to start out. Lets try to build a positive forum section that will keep them around and avoid negative or flaming posts please.

Best Regards from DeathsHandBrigade.net

i could be wrong since i'v never seen a definition of 'meta', but i was under the impression 'meta' is what vets consider to be the absolute best weapons loadout you use to achieve the best possible results in the game. to achieve the best possible results in MWO, you want to apply maximum pinpoint damage to 1 hit location in a single alpha

for example the previous meta was gauss/dual PPC (35 pinpoint damage to 1 location), and when the gauss was nerfed then the meta became (and is currently - 30 pinpoint damage) dual AC5/dual PPC

by that definition, LRMs are not meta, they are just enjoying their 15 minutes of fame because of their recent buff. we can assume the next 'new hit single' popular weapon will likely be SRMs since they are due to fix the hit registration soon

Meta is (roughly) the game about the game
IE: Pidgey or Spearow? (for a pokemon reference)

So the "Meta" choice would be, by connection, what is perceived as the strongest option.
