My car has a back up camera.... I am sure some contractor would be happy to charge teh government 15X the cost to install rear facing cameras!

Now, to make it where you are either looking forward or backwards (not both like once which rearview mirror or a backup cam monitor would do) would be possible. But imho it would not be all that useful, Turning the mech around would be just as efficient as switching to a rearview.

But seriously, comming up behind someone has a tatical use. Which is why our high tech sensors aren't 360 degrees, it's part of the game.

Rear camera doesn't need to be 360 24/7. AS stated a PiP like our Advanced zoom would be perfect.

Ah, ok I will give you that one, slow boats would benefit from it. It didn't cross my mind since I don't pilot anything slower then 70kph.
And for PiP rearview, as stated, the requirement that it needs to rerender the scene would be to GPU/CPU intensive. The PiP of the advance zoom only magnifies the pixels already rendered, a technique a rearview wouldn't be able to use since it is pointed in the complete opposite direction the first render is facing.

Like I said, hiding in someone's blind spot is part of the game. Even if you know someone is behind you, you don't know their direction or distance or even their location if they duck behind cover before you turn around. Lets not dumb the game down, or create another useless 3pv type debacle.

Well, 360 degree views are canon.
But those could get pretty confusing.

The Battlemaster is supposed to have 2 rear firing lasers and the Jagermech can flip its arms over its head to fire directly behind it.
But MWO has no rear mounted weapons or rear view (or leg mounted weapons, ArrowIV, MASC, or even teams with 12 active players on both sides) simply because PGI.

What about a reverse tone too?
An audible beeping that tells the mech behind that you are moving backwards so they don't block you in?
We could have reverse lights too for the same purpose.

I'd pay really money to have a giant Neon sign light up on my Mech's back saying "Reversing, move NOW!"
