I love my Jug. Takes damage well, gives damage well. What more could you ask for?

2 AMS
4 ML
4 AC5 AMMO
1 AMS AMMO
ferro armour
std 260
for 800K if you own nothing.......this is a great budget build capable of laying waste. big old shield arm goes along way or catches a lot of LRMS.....

This couples with the fact that as a free mech, it's ending up in the hands of a lot of inexperienced players. So people see a -9S coming their way, and it does stupid stuff and gets killed, and people assume it's the mech that's bad.

They don't take XLs very well, which makes them generally slower. After piloting a Firebrand with a 280XL in it, the stock 260 in a Thunderbolt feels like molasses.

works very well for me, 26 matches 17 wins, 31 kils vs 13 death, 450 averagedmg, not to shabby for free pixels

Since you're being deliberately belligerent I'll be more specific; some people consistently do well in TBolts. If you're going to argue that doesn't mean the TBolt is good, the point still stands that some people consistently doing badly in them does not mean the TBolt is bad either.

Now that being said I'm not a great pilot, more of a meh pilot. I do have an unhealthy obsession with the summoner mechs in stock config, and dispite not having a heavy hitting load out, its diversity and balance makes up for it. Had 3 matches last night where our team got beat. One was close, the other 2 we got rolled. Still pulled out one kill and a terrible 700dmg (one match I overextended early and barely got 100 DMG), but my surprise was from the kill. It was me vs. A more stockish tblot 9s and were both pretty even. He hurt me pretty good, and I lost my lbx but took him down.
The thing that impressed me most was the.effectiveness of the weapons load out. It speaks well for the soon to come summoner primes, even if on paper it looks pretty weak. Add in more speed and jumpjets and you have a pretty solid mech I think.

You could say the same thing for any unpopular/poorly designed mech for MWO so again that theory is irrelevant.

You can strap standard engines in and go 5 ML + ASRM-6, or I did 5 ML + MPL/2MG on the arms that actually brawled surprisingly well.

After some major game time i think ill switch the ppc to the shoulder and ml to the arm.

pretty much what I'm using an it works well for me
the two ERLs in one weapon group
3meds on the torso in another
and the right arm is on shift in case I need it

2 Machine Guns... 2 Flamers.... why?
Anyway, thanks for the free mech! Time to strip it and put in some real guns!!
I am wondering though, has anyone had any success with its stock loadout?
Here is your answer.
- TDR-9S Based on the older 5SS model, the 9S is built with off the shelf structural components and armor. The 'Mech is armed with an ER PPC for its primary long-range firepower. This is supported at closer ranges by an SRM-6 launcher and three Medium Lasers. Finally, the Mech carries an Anti-Missile System for missile protection and two Machine Guns and a pair of Flamers for anti-infantry use. BV (1.0) = 1,244, BV (2.0) = 1,494[18]
