Greetings freebirths! How are things? Stopped playing for a few reasons (Mostly RL issues) and was thinking about dusting the cobwebs off me mechs and getting back into this game.

Any word on community warfare?
Are latency issues still bad?
Game hasn't gone full blown, pay to win has it?
How are the clan mechs? Horribly broken like people were anticipating? Is there a difference between clan tech and IS tech?
Is the King Crab purchasable yet?
Is Cartman still banned? I miss that guy.

Not for me, but then again I play in North 'Merica so I'm fairly close to the servers.

They're not here yet.

CW is the current priority project now that UI2.0 is live and the launch module update is imminent.

Latency issues are going away more and more each patch, and the big news there is that the 29th patch should fix most of the SRM problems.

It's still pay for convenience/vanity. Hero mechs remain the closest thing to pay to win that MWO has, and even there they don't ever break the underlying rules, they just offer unique build paths.

Omnimechs seem like they'll have one of the most true-to-the-fiction implementations yet. We don't have details on clan weapon stats yet, but PGI hopes to avoid having a clear upgrade path from IS to Clan, and they don't want to have mixed tech (IS guns on Clan mechs or Clan guns on IS mechs).

King Crab isn't available, but it's apparently on the drawing board as a possible upcoming mech option.

? ?? ???

I was being funny about the king crab, thats awesome it might actually make its way into the game. I heard from some people that the game had implemented gold ammo, but that seems to have been an exaggeration after lookin around the website (Unless theres actually an advantage to having a gold mech besides baller status?)

Has the pace of updates increased as far as content? I'll be downloading this again tonight, really curious as to where the game is sitting.

The people who expect complete games in 1 year are still frustrated, but those who appreciate the pace of software development are enjoying themselves just fine. Basically, you have to accept the narrative that PGI was forced by the publisher to slap the Closed Beta product together in six months and has spent the following two years rewriting the rushed portions.

The pace of updates has increased considerably since the release of UI2.0. Right now it's mostly features and fixes. Launch Module (first phase of CW) comes out on the 29th with tonnage restrictions and more competitive play support, so big step there. Clan mechs come out in June. All phases of CW are due out mid-fall.

Performance and stability has pretty much arrived at normal levels. Most of the remaining issues are centered around DX11 support, which arrived last month. SRM fixes are also coming out the 29th.

As far as we know, the Gold mechs are purely cosmetic. The Warhorns are probably going to be something akin to the Heavy Metal's music-on-kill effect, but hopefully sounding more like this:

There is no gold ammo. Some people claim artillery and airstrikes are pay to win, but they are ignorant and wrong; free versions with identical performace are available for 40,000 c-bills, which you should make at least double that in most matches once you learn the basic mechanics of the game.

Updates come every 1st and 3rd Tuesday, though April gets a third patch on the 29th. UI2.0 was a huge bottleneck for pushing updates, so now that it's live we've been seeing a lot more large-scale changes than we had previously.

The biggest two upcoming changes are the CryEngine explosion throttle fix and the Launch Module. LM will add 3/3/3/3 weight limits and private matches, and should be the start of a far more involved match launch cycle that I expect to evolve over time.

The CryEngine explosion throttle was an artificial limit imposed by the engine on the number of explosions that could happen within a certain time frame. It was apparently one of the primary underlying problems with SRM hit registration, and removing it (PGI has confirmed that it should not impact performance by getting rid of it) will help immensely. They've also tracked down and fixed several other issues related to Host State Rewind that should be coming on the 29th or shortly thereafter. Once SRMs are back, brawling should follow.

well, TBH, Yoshi, 3pV turned into much ado about nothing. The competitive advantage is virtually null, and the negatives generally outweigh it (having the "shoot me halo" is seldom healthy)
