A meta forms because of player psychology. Nothing else.

Well I want to play mechwarrior.

And meta is a result of weapon balance, not lack of hardpoint restrictions.

Nah, meta is a crutch for those who can't play :)

Or people that understand the game and its mechanics.

Not even close...or are you not including those who follow the meta because the so called elite crowd say it's the best?
I've never followed the meta in any game i've ever played, and the difference between the meta and just normal play is usually so miniscule that it barely makes any difference.
But then again, i play games for fun, not just to increase my epeen.

Well...actually it's because it's the optimal way to play. FLD is damage that you can't spread, that you don't need to hold a beam on, and only need a split second to apply it. High reward, little risk.

Optimal doesn't necessarily mean it can't be beat, but it takes more effort to beat effectively when using the sub-optimal systems.

So, it's worth pointing out that you guys are getting your wish, in a way. Clantech won't have dynamic endo/ferro, and certain things will be locked to the chassis. This mean that clan chassis have slot restricted hard points.

Unfortunately, they got things the wrong way round..... :P
