No......just no to that setup.
Or at least state it would be the strongest mech IF your ping were far below hundred and you encounter the hit reg and hsr on a good day and IF you manage to not get swarmed by a lance of lights and IF you get not abandoned by your team and if .....
The list is a good mile long. Standart PPC may work well in the low ping wonderland where you sit right on the server but normaly hands of standart PPC its just bugged or at least desynced from its animation or something.

Rrright. Notice the ping below. This was last night. Gauss+2xPPC, XL340:

Thanks all for your input , I decided to go with cmetz suggestion and the battle master 1s as that seemed like the most solid choice for my play style .

When choosing between the orions on which to keep after mastering the 1v the 1k and the va I really struggled. I knew the k was gone but the va and the 1v where a hard choice I preferred the play style of the va , But the hard points where much more versatile on the 1v . and if the va loses its arms you've had it. so I decided to keep the 1v .

Seeing the battle master was essentially a orion va with better armour more fire power and able to match its speed and not so easy to take its weapons out , Was pretty much decision over.

Again thank you.

I'd say dont go for the atlas as first assault mech, Atlas are good but are also a magnet bullet. Stalker are good, I enjoy the 5M and Misery, but you need to have the enemy in front of you, if you have to rely in turning....well better have friend close. Battlemasters are also a good option, even if you want to go missile boat. People say that Banshee are a terrible mech but I have enjoyed the 3 chasis, mostly the 3E. Also I'd take a look at the HGN.

Don't discount mediums until you've tried them. I am a terror in my Hunchbacks. My record is seven kills in one match, done in my AC/20 equipped Hunchback. My dual SRM6 Hunchback has gotten six kills.

You have incredible mobility and enough firepower to fell anything in the game. Improve your situational/battlefield awareness and you can be a MVP.

Jaeger seems very capable of taking down an Atlas too, as I've experienced on many an occasion... lol

Absolutely lol! My favorite mech is my 6 ML, 2 AC5 Firebrand...it's just that the OP was asking about assaults and seemed to be singling out the DDC as king because of ECM :(

And the fact mediums aren't really good at anything IMHO I've ruled those to out.

Tell that to my Shadowhawks and Hunchbacks. I love mediums and they are great snipers and light hunters. They also work as zombie brawlers and fast strikers.

Both skill and mech matter. If you fight green pilots, even a Lolcust is a death machine. However, when skill is similar, mediums tend to die pretty easily.

Then explain why the competitive teams I have seen over my time playing this game (when dropping in 12 mans) are using mediums? If your point is correct they should've had no mediums at all.

Because it is not 1 on 1, but 12 on 12, and most leagues have strict drop weight restrictions -- specifically to prevent 9 assaults with 3 lights.

Honestly I'm not great at this game my opinion of mediums is simply based on what ive experienced on my orion,

When playing my orion

I'm most afraid of assaults they can out damage me and have more armour however the one thing I have going for me is I can out manauever most of them , meaning as long as i'm not foolish enough to stand still at close quarters its not to hard to kill them but generally there the most threat to me , make a mistake near them I take massive damage .

heavies are my 2nd most feared opponent because in a orion I'm not in the strongest heavie according to most and generally fighting a heavy it comes down to pilot skill who wins. or if I make a mistake and walk out into a barrage of ac/20s and am to badly damaged by the time I've had chance to react to the threat.

Lights are meh yeah there a threat in groups they can move fast enough to make hitting them a pain in the arse, However from my experience unless there's 3 of them ganging up on you they simply cant do enough damage even with there ability to out manoeuvre me , of course I have to defend weaker spots, but generally I can kill them before they get close to killing me.

Mediums I assign the least threat to because I can out damage them out armour them and they're not fast enough to make hitting them particularly difficult.

Just to throw an idea out... an Awesome :P

Most anti-meta you can go. Known for being a fast assault, most variants have missiles. Equip a tag to target any ecm mechs out to 750m (as well as decrease time to lock and tighten missile spread) add a BAP to counter any ecm that tries to negate your targeting ability.

Difficult mech to use, but I've seen experienced pilots do some real damage with em.

Just because they're 'competitive' doesn't mean they're any good.

Mediums are only taken in top-tier play due to drop weight restrictions, or class based restrictions. This is the case in every league at the moment. From an objective standpoint, they're OK but the class is a bit poor as a whole.
