FFS people.
It's war
When is war supposed to be fair?

It's a game, if I wanted to go play with IEDs, one sided teams and such I'd go the local recruitment office and sign my life away like a soldier.

Nah, I find greater satisfaction in having played a good match, even against overwhelming tonnage, and even occasionally win.

Of course, I'm not one of those guys always looking for a scapegoat for getting outplayed.

3 hours to win a Tbolt, 3 1/3 hours to win a Centurion... Laughed with the guys, joked about my scoring 27 damage one game and 673 the next. Fun nights. 2 Assaults/ 1 Heavy/ 1 Light

Alt account(PUG) won both Mechs in under 8 Matches... was off line right after winning. I was bored.

I don't mind losing but I'd rather it be because I was outgunned than out-tonned...

If thinks moves toward landing everyone a 1.0 W/L ratio is the pie-in-the-sky ideal. IE, 575 losses and 575 wins...there's a fair bit of losing and winning going on and I'd be fine with that (I'd even be fine with 400/575 etc).

But if my W/L is 150/575..."War isn't fair, bro" would be a hard pill to swallow...and since we're talking about a game, it would take a special kind of resignation to accept that sort of beating night after night and still say you're having fun.

That WOULD be terrible...but would you really blame a .26 W/L ratio spanning 725 games entirely on tonnage? In that example...I think there are likely other factors. Apologies if I'm wrong.

True, but I think that's beside the point. My point was, however you arrived at losing that much, it wouldn't be fun.

Careful, if too many people adopt that mindset there won't be any new posts in the forums.

Light or heavy would probably be better as assaults take some skills to play effectively for the most part, but mediums are just going to get newbies fried.

I agree yet in that case at least it wouldn't hurt their team as much as when a newb atlas gets fried while the opposing teams victor is a pro.

Back in my WoT time I felt largely encouraged to being able to one day drive an iconic tank like the tiger, kingtiger or maus and therefor willingly accepted the horrendous grind of this game to make it thus far. So it can as well be encouraging as long as you are having fun in the class you're in. I think it could work a sucessful sale model if everyone had to start with a Medium Mech and that you had to master a certain amount of mechs to elite until you could progress to heavy mechs and then to assaults (maybe by adding some sort of ranks, where every mastered mech would mean that you increase your rank by one, slightly stepping up in your career which means you could also proceed by mastering lights if you want but aren't forced to as only a few seem to like their gameplay. Also this could make Assaults and Heavies rather rare in a match, resulting in a more "believeable" battle scenario where medium mechs actually form a majority, which somewhats negates the currently "less rewarding" experience of having to pilot a medium. Hero and champion mechs on the other hand (or maybe all sales via MC) could grant you instant access to that mech, no matter the weight class as this game needs to be financed in a way after all. You could argue that this shortcut would result in the same experience that we have today but I believe people who actually spent quite some money on a mech play less careless as they want to protect their investment.

The other aspect to adress to is of course to minimize the dropouts. No one would want to play a match of chess with one figure missing while the opponent doesn't.

I have a feeling, that when match seek times start to climb, it's very likely that they'll find a way to allow "overflow" in the weight queues, where it'll fill with the next closest weight class. Thus making a convoluted process of matching, even more so.

According to Bryan in AtD 34, "The majority of players play grouped", one would assume that a majority = >51% when the teams as a whole were limited to 8 in size (12 mans have only been a "thing" for just over a year).

As to attrition numbers after that, you have seen MANY organizations fold up shop, merge, etc due to loss of players over that time, how much is directly because of the group caps is pure speculation, and may have just been compounded by other mitigating factors. But I'd say that on the whole, group play has suffered significantly because of the caps. I know MANY people that are only still playing the game because of the people they play with and a love for the IP, while holding a heavy grudge against the course of development the game has seen. In short, they dislike the game, but like the people they've met because of it, so they continue to hang around long after they would have.

This is 100% me and there are others that feel that way in my unit. If it wasn't for the love of BT and the guys on TS I drop with, I'd almost certainly be gone by now.

I also doubt that the 3/3/3/3 matchmaker will be the messiah we all look for. What if 3 locusts get paired against 3 jenners or spiders? That's neither 100% or even 80% fair and those are "only" lights....

Blame the 3 that brought the Locust... 20 Ton mechs has no purpose in this game.

Meanwhile... Kinda rare nowdays to see Light mechs stomping the match... I guess you just need a good Wing Man.
