How Long On Average Do You Need To Wait To Drop?

No failure to find a match, but occasionally there's a quick drop at times.

A minute max in a mixed weight group.
Failures are quite rare.

Basically I click launch and: talk to my girlfriend; get a drink; go to the bathroom; make microwave popcorn; do some pushups; etc.
Haven't had a failure yet but, man, the matches I get after the really long waits are BRUTAL. I usually end up in the underhive with those ones.

I thought about that too but the same drop problem persisted throughout the day and into night as well, so I figured it's not the time of the day.

Hmmm........I guess some people just get extended wait times for certain classes. In your case, it's the lights that bog you down mostly.
What exactly happen when you try to play with a light?

Grouped, it really depends on which other players are in the group.
Your regular failures to find a match may simply be caused by the time of day you are playing.

Group - ~1-3 minutes
12mens - ages and several retries

Solo...instantly to 45 seconds. In a group...10 seconds to 30 seconds.
I haven't seen a "failed to find match" since 2013.
Doesn't matter when I launch group or solo, it is either intantly matched or takes what feels like an eternity, but I NEVER fail to find a match.
Hasn't happened to me once since 2012!

I do notice when we're lanced up we take forever to find a match, but I don't recall failing to find a match even when we are lanced up. I guess I'm the lucky one!
What have you done to your Elo to not get matches!!

That would be frustrating. I wonder what the leading cause for the failure is. Just doesn't seem right.

The funny thing is if I select another class of mechs, I get dropped REAL FAST in the same time frame. So I think it's not a matter of what time I play.

I expect that to go up dramatically once the 3/3/3/3 MM goes into effect.
As a side note, I am in the Pacific time zone, and play evenings and weekends - so probably "prime time" hours.

Suppose that means my Elo is pretty average, then.

I think my elo was smitten, it had something to do with divine retribution I think.... It's usually easier to find matches when I'm in a group. But if it's just me and Doomstryke, for instance, it's about the same as dropping solo.

Each weight class has its own elo. When I couldn't find matches in assaults I played lights. When I couldn't find games in lights, I switched to heavies. Then mediums. Eventually all my weight classes seemed to end up about the same, though mediums might still be a little easier to find matches in.
So play other weight classes? It sounds like you were only running one mech or one weight class. If you want to play the same weight class you couldn't find a match in, you just have to keep searching. Make sure you aren't picky about the game mode.
If you have a great win/loss ratio with that weight class, goof off a bit to drop your elo (take some joke build that you find fun but doesn't seem to do particularly well). If you have a not so great win/loss ratio in that weight class, go full on tryhard mode or find someone to drop with who can help you get more wins. If you get closer to a 1:1 win/loss ratio, you should have an easier time finding games.

it spins for a while, then lets me know it couldn't find a match. Then I try to drop again, it spins a while, I play a NES emulator for a bit, alt tab, "failed to find a match" - then I launch again, alt tab, kill koopa but fail to rescue the princess, alt tab, and kill a bunch of dudes. Lights are my #1 winningest chassis and its what I run 90% of the time, assaults are the second, then heavies, then mediums.

That's what I suspect; ELO!
Probably this also contributes to the increase in "AFK" mechs because everybody is just alt-tab back into desktop or doing other stuff (not looking at MWO).

Wasn't referring to you. Just saying we can't really blame people if they do that.
So you can't get your ELO too high if you want to have a smoother waiting time for this game.
That makes sense as I had a few over 1K games the day before. Probably that explains why I am getting 6X "Failed to find" recently.

Now the game length seemed to be decidedly shorter. Might have been due to the caliber of players I dropped with/against (Hi Vass! Long time no see!)
That isn't a complaint, I had 4 games DONE in 30 minutes! Combat was fast and furious, as combat should be.

Ya that makes me think Elo, not player population since Elo is by weightclass. You could email support and have them check your Elo for that weightclass see if something looks funny. I know Russ has looked into peoples accounts that post to him on Twitter, but support@mwomercs.com is probably enough to get the ball rolling. Good luck!
