Why do disconnected mechs remain in the game? With no possibility of a reconnect, why can't the mech belonging to a disconnected player just blow up or something? Call it fusion reactor malfunction or whatever. Just get it off the match. It will remove the need to hunt down the disconnected mech to end the game. Or allow some people for farm damage by slowly taking a disconnected mech apart (I've seen people doing that to mechs on their own team even). Just get rid of it.

Well with any luck they'l figure out how to allow reconnecting, maybe somehow lobbies will help get them there

I feel they should probably explode in a pretty neon fireworks display showering the area with heat reflective confetti while blaring "Welcome to the jungle" by Guns and roses.

That or they should just count as dead and be done with it, but my first idea is definitely better.

If they allow re connection... which I'm not holding my breath or anything, then simply have them count as dead while the player is not actively connected.

Sounds like a cool idea but I'd be worried about people dropping in AC20/laser boats and DCing just to troll the other team with an OP turret.

Can't be impossible to auto air-strike a mech that's been unresponsive for 1min at a base or some similar action..ideal being allowing a reconnect within the pre-airstrike timeframe.

Well. They'll have to figure out how to "protect" the disconnected mech until the player can reconnect. Otherwise, he'll reconnect to a mech with no arms, one leg, and most armor missing.

I don't think that would be necessary, most likely a reconnect would be within the next minute or two, most likely not long enough to have been limbed already (except on small maps perhaps). But at least they would have a chance to help the team rather than nothing at all.

This is MECHWARRIOR. A DC should be treated as an EJECT. Pilot out. Mech collapses. End of story.

First person to die gets to take control of the disconnect mech. Or, first person in that same weight class gets to take over the mech. Make it an optional thing where you have to opt in in the settings before the match itself so it could be a random thing.

I fixed your sequence, i think you'll find we can agree on this.

Program a semi-competent AI to take over and auto-pilot the mech in case of DC.

Yeah, but they've been wanting to get that feature in since closed beta; I'm not optimistic that it's going to happen any time soon. Right now I'd just be willing to settle for treating disconnects as dead players, so we don't have to wait ten minutes more for the other team to find them and win.

Only if we get the eject animation. I still cannot believe this game doesn't have the pilot eject animation! I want to see pods shooting out of mechs!

disconnects should explode as if they were out of bounds.

Or DCed mechs should simply just turn in phantasmical Urbanmechs and haunt that particular map until the end of time.

They should be headshotted by the first light to find them.

As a victim of a rare DC, I would like to be able to rejoin the match to view, just the same as when we're killed. Though I am one of those people that watches until the end of the match, however painful it may be.

Honestly I like this idea, but the player who gains control should only get points from his own efforts. They get the 'mech in the exact same condition it was left, no bonuses, temporary immunity of any kind, etc. (covering the bases here)

If they don't have the same model 'mech in their stable the xp should get converted to gxp in some way to make it a bit fair. Players who get "transfered" into a new 'mech may get a Y/N option to accept or just spectate or exit the game. Also they can only hop into only 1 mech per match, not 2 or more.

Whenever a player disconnects an AI controlled The Death's Knell should spawn behind them and fire a constant stream of 4 flamers on their back CT until the are dead. Just like turrets, this AI will have perfect aim, be able to see and target through ecm, build up no heat and need no ammo (even if it had ammo dependant weapons.
This way discos will die in a fire as they rightly should.

Edit:
The pilot name should be "The Reaper" and it should play a music riff from Rob Zombie's Meet the Reaper, Metallica's For Whom the Bell Tolls, or some other reaper/death themed song on kill. Perhaps "Disco Inferno" would be a good choice too, maybe we could have vote.
