This is something one of my favorite flight sims has in it. Aces High 2 has plane multiplier ratings.

What a plane multiplier rating means is a number associated by how popular versus how unpopular a plane is compared to the others. That number is inverted, and is applied to your score as you kill others or do damage. Basically, if you use an unpopular machine to kill a popular one, you get a bunch more points than normal.

If you use the most commonly used machines to kill an uncommon one, you get pretty much nothing.

For example if you run in an unpopular Trebuchet, but it has a multiplier of 1.5, and you kill a really popular mech like a Jeagermech, which has a mulitplier of only 0.6 (inverted to be 1.2), you will get a multiplier on your score of 2.7.

In the reverse of that, if a Jeagermech with 0.6 kills that Trebuchet (1.5 inverted to 0.75) means you get a score multiplied by 1.15.

Clearly the Trebuchet gets more rewards than the Jeagermech.

I has the affect of making people want to try and use unpopular machines, but nobody is forcing your to do so.

Maybe MWO has enough mechs for that to work here?
