No Artemis on a missile boat ? Isn't it a must have in this case ?

Hell no (well for my style, it is a valid choice). It helps, but I'm using 15s and 10s. Artemis can be very helpful on them, but I prefer using the slots and tonnage to add more ammo. 4 tons LRM ammo = 720 missiles. With fewer launchers Artemis becomes more desirable so a mech toting 2 LRM hardpoints and they are big launchers (15 or 20) will benefit a lot more from it than a mech with 4 launchers.

I do understand that Artemis also lets you lock on faster, which is another point in favor of it, my style is less favoring of Artemis over more ammo.

That build's big mistake is the engine. The Orion is already a barn with a 300 rated engine

You are talking about the XL255 ?
It gives 60.6Km/h => enough for a missile boat no ? I don't think a single Orion I own go over 70 km/h :(

I play my VA with an SRM20, LB10-X and 2ML. 60-point alpha, max armour, ~80kph. Disgusting fun.

No. You do not need to walk along mediums, but you do need to relocate fast when the situation dictates it. 60 kph will get you left behind by many assaults. You do not want to be behind -- you want to be at the back, but still within the blob to not die to a random fast mover.

XL330. Die most often to CT destruction, so it doesn't seem too much of a disadvantage.

Took the VA and as said that mech is pretty fun either as a 2nd line support or missile boat (having the launcher on the arms is annoying though imo).

Thx again for all the advices !

Hello there,

It's almost time for me to pick a 3rd Orion and I am wondering which one I should give a go.
So far I have the ON1-V and the Protector(ON1-P). They are actually very similar so I would like to get something a bit different if possible.

Right now I am thinking about the ON1-VA, and go missile boat since I do not have any yet.

Orion owners out there, any comment or other idea ?

Thx

The ON1-VA is the best Orion in the game. If you don't want to go LRMs, you have SRMs or streaks. Both are quite effective. You can mount an AC10 no problem or an AC20 with standard engine. 2 energy points and they're almost completely symetrical so you can favor one side or the other. The hardpoints are not too low, but are low enough to protect your torso. With XLs you can be fast enough to keep lights on their toes.

By far, it is my favorite mech now that Victors have been nerfed to Atlas levels of manouverability.
