Spent most of last night getting some of my mechs downgraded back to stock. So far my stable is as follows:

LCT-1VP
GRF-1S
CN9-AL
JM6-S
DRG-1N
TDR-5SS

I might downgrade one of my battlemasters but I'm still on the fence on that. Also might add a HBK to the roster, been wanting to try them and this would be a good excuse to start buying them.

Get a 4G. You will not regret it. If you have the extra c-bills, the 4J is also an excellent selection.

Fun videos to watch while I fix my computer so I can start playing stock nights again.

I'm actually considering either getting a Stalker 4N or 3H just for stock matches.

The 4N has the heatsinks & ammo to better utilize its main weapon systems (LL, SRM & LRM10 -- the ML will be too hot to use, most of the time; since they have a worse damage/heat than LL at all ranges, they should be used exclusively as emergency weapons & Alpha boosters). The 3H, on the other hand, has only nine salvos of LRM20, and then you're down to 4 medium lasers and a pair of SRM6's, with six less heatsinks to support them.

When the LRMs are out of ammo (or the target is within your minimum range), both the 3F and the 3H have the same sustainable DPS: 6.81, with all skill unlocks, while standing still on standard temperature map & firing weapons in the most optimum manner (using the Smurphy weaponlab). The 4N has 7.68 in the same conditions.

For maximum short-term close-range DPS, the 4N again comes out on top, with 15.69 compared to the 3H's 11.45 -- something like a 40% increase. At longer ranges, the 3H does have a clear advantage, until its used up all nine missile salvos. Then it's back to the 4N with the relatively cool-running large lasers (and the LRM, which still has ammo left at this point, if they've both been firing their LRM's non-stop).

My recommendation would be the 4N, because it seems to have more of a solid well-rounded-ness, but the 3H could be interesting if you wanted to challenge yourself by giving yourself a large close-range handicap for a moderate long-range advantage for nine salvos. While I would expect any skilled mechwarrior to obtain consistently better results with the 4N, I also expect that most of us are playing stock because we care about other things than merely taking the best 'mech and winning as much as possible. : )

I myself have my eye on the 4N, but I don't know that I presently need such a powerful 'mech, when I'm having such fun in my Raven 4X and even my often-frustrating Awesome 8Q and Catapult C1. The Stalker is, after all, a fairly ugly 'mech! : D

P.S. I haven't really brought the Stalker 3F into this comparison, but it appears to be somewhere between the other two in general. With its torso twist range bonus, this is a strong contender with the 4N; the 3F suffers from sustainability issues more than the 4N does, but less than the 3H. Between the 4N and the 3F, I don't know which should perform better overall, on average, but I suspect that each of them would consistently rank better than the 3H. Therefore, I would rate the 3H the worst of the three stock Tech-1 Stalkers.

Adding to the list of Private Match buttons we need: One that increases the ammo-per-ton to roughly double canon levels (to deal with doubled armor). That LRM20 should have a dozen salvos for a single ton of ammo - which is still light, but better than 9. A number of the ammo-fed 'mechs have the same problem; what was mostly enough for a single engagement in Battletech is dry in the opening minutes of even a slower-paced stock match.

Or just have a button that says, "Truly Stock". Stock only, tabletop ranges and damages and heat and ammo and armor. Plus a +2 reticle shake modifier to your aiming when you're running around at top speed. I want that game.

I like the design of the Stalker.

It might surprise you, but prior to upgrading, I actually took my 3H to the fields of the group queue in its stock configuration, Single Heat Sinks and everything. You'd be surprised how much mileage you get out of those LRM20s with some fire control, but it's no pushover at short range either. I chain fired my weapons (which got up to 18 salvos out of my launchers) and split the mediums into pairs which offered decent heat control and made the 3H a very capable multi range striker. Well, it still is, as my upgrades merely consisted of upgrading to DHS, adding two tons of LRM ammo and throwing in an AMS.

And while I think that DPS is an inefficient way to calculate actual combat effectiveness, i agree on the much better heat efficiency of the 4N, which is likely why I'll pick it over the 3H, which also has become a little bit less attactive to save up for as I already own one

Have a curious question. When the Vindicator comes out, if they don't have the VND-1SIC released as a variant (I doubt they would), could/would I be permitted to use it in SMM? It's an actual upgrade replacing the PPC with a LL and the LRM5 with an LRM10 system, no other changes... (I'd be cool if it wasn't permitted, just asking ahead of time.)

All special variants from that era are permittet, as long as they remain in the respective tier bracket. Refitting a Griffin 1N to a 1S configuration is considered fair game, so a Vindicator 1SIC would be no problem.

New Stock Mech for stock days incoming:

http://mwomercs.com/...-release-dates/

At 64.8 km/h it'll make a good edition to Hunchback and Centurion Lances, which go the same speed.

Guessing variants: 1R (definite), 1AA (probably), and 1X (maybe)
Buildable variants for Stock Wednesdays: 1SIC (also known as St. Ives Blue), and 3L

I wouldn't mind trying out their "runs too hot" dual PPC that was first considered for the Vindicator... Wonder how it would work with a PPC in each arm... Hum... (I'll have to try that in normal matches!)

My question is more so, would the 1SIC Vindicator be acceptable for SMM? I don't often get involved in the Era Wednesday (or whatever even happens on Saturday either).

Just to clarify, Stock Mech Monday only uses the variants currently in the game. While it is possible to create non-included variants using the existing one released in MWO, those are NOT good for Stock Mech Monday but ARE good for Stock Mech Eras.

Aww. When we hit 3062, I will build a 7D for T2 (T3?) though, no matter what it costs me.

I thought as much... but if I beg a little more with some pouty eyes maybe...?

Figured it couldn't hurt to ask at least. Now we just need to see what variants make it into the game! (Maybe all four?)

Even if the SIC doesn't. You can still build it on any one of them, and play it on the Wednesday event.

I'm going to sit out again tonight. Still not feeling well, and unless people wish to wait around for 2-5 minutes for me to load into a match, best if I just stay out anyway...
