I just mastered the Griffins but left the N and S stock - AND.....then my cooling fan died on the computer this morning. So I 'll see you all next time, dammit. I really wanted to be an annoying jump sniper for about 4 shots until I overheated...

Ouch! Just set up a normal fan blowing in, that should do, right? (Or if you have a spare computer (can be dead too), replace the fan?) I know I have to run with my computer casing open, otherwise my video card overheats and shuts off to prevent damage...

You will be missed.

On a positive note, I may be able to get my brother to play a few matches of SMM today! Maybe...

PS: I still say we should make a Stock Mech Unit... and SHOW THE UNIVERSE THE POWER OF STOCK!

I'd be very much willing to create a SMM Tesunie account (as annoying as that sound for me) just to join in!

I've thought of that as well Tesunie, although I haven't bothered to create a unit because I really shouldn't be if I don't play the game much. I only play on Stock days from now on. Personally I don't think an all Stock team against totally un-canon customized Mechs would stand a chance due to underlying game balance issues... but maybe if they were super coordinated. Stock Mechs were mainly balanced against other Stock Mechs (per era). Cheaper ones with "easy to maintain" quirks were also easily repaired and/or replaced after battle as well.

Bah. So what if we aren't "competitive", or even win! When we are losing, we rub it in our opponent's faces that we are playing Stock mechs, showing our skills. If we are winning, then it could be lots of fun to show people that stock mechs ARE good, and can be effective on the field! (With the right training/practice/teamwork...)

I'd be willing to make a second account just to join into that kind of fun. If you asked me, I feel that SMM brings out our best skills, and only increases our skills as we are forced to consider heat, ammo and other "stock" factors into our game play. (It really helps when you can make a mech with 40 LRM tubes, but only need 2-3 tons of ammo compared to everyone else 8 tons+ of ammo... LRM 20 with one ton of ammo? That sounds good to me! B) )

We got to talking a little bit about doing a tech 1 custom match (concept for now). Basically, we were thinking it could be neat to have people create custom mechs that might actually be encountered in cannon (possibly, maybe... probably not). Might be something interesting to do every once in a while.

For those worried about "meta" builds creeping in, we can have a registration list. If we were to do this, you post the build you are expecting to use. Someone looks it over, and if it is approved, they can bring it in.

Just a concept we were talking about on the comms of my team last night. Figured it might be interesting. Doesn't hurt to talk about it.

Tesunie, I love your enthusiasm, but I know from personal experience that it can't work. 5% is a noticeable difference on the super-competitive level; at the highest level, games are won and lost by smaller differences. Differences of 100% of more are unthinkable here, and these are the sorts of differences we're talking about when we compare stock and customized.

Talking about unit? Thing is, I don't play competitively but for fun. Also, in theory, Elo should help place us in decent matches anyway. If we preform well enough to fight against the super competitive crowd, then that would prove a point.

Don't know about other people, but I'd be making a separate account at that point for just stock mechs for such a unit. I could be interesting to see how well we could do. Might see interesting results after all... (I mean, I play stock mechs in PUG matches (and group matches) all the time and do well enough I feel.)

If I'm the only one to feel this way, then that's okay. I'm probably considered a little crazy after all. (I mean, have you seen some of the mech builds I use!?!?)

It was great to see some new faces last night and sorry I had to bow out early just as the west coasters were logging on. Needless to say after a long holiday of BBQ and Brew I was completely hammered by almost midnight and it was time to cash in. That stock unit idea was a cool one, if only PGI allowed 5 characters in a unit name to properly spell [STOCK].

Well technically if you are creating a unit based out of canon - canon units and pilots from Battle Tech only used a stock design. If they were a "special super pilot" then they had their own custom Mech canonized on an official Record Sheet. You would just need to state in the unit description that its only for Stock enthusiasts.

You aren't the only one Tesunie for sure, the previous games had way more support for Stock leagues simply because the devs of those games built in server mutators specifically for enforcing stock only games. Large groups competed in a completely fan-based community warfare that way too in MW4. One of the best examples are the olden days of MPBT3025 that was a game that had no mechlab, and just the stock mechs from BT.

I'd just to SMM (Stock Mech Mondays), or SMs (Stock Mechs) or SM. Maybe even S'Ms (Stock 'Mechs), but that looks like it's spelling S'mores... Sounds yummy... Or we could just do STOK. BTSM (Battle Tech Stock Mech)? BTSC (Battle Tech Stock Corps.)? LORE might be good instead...

Honestly I would be up for creating an ult for a stock unit. I think it would be a blast, if we could get enough people involved. I miss the stock only modes in the previous titles and think many pilots would benefit from them via new learning experiences.

Sorry I missed last night, no internet in the woods. :D

Sorry to return to this thread so late. I'll try to play this weekend if you guys are doing a Stock Saturday or Stock Sunday.

Do you have a unit up and running? [STOCK] is impossible, but how about [STCK] or [SMM] or [STOK] or something? I'm ready to join a unit and I imagine it would be great to team up with fellow stock mech enthusiasts.

I'm all up for making an alternate account for a Stock unit. Question: Can I make another account from the same E-mail address? I have another one, but I can't recall anything about it... (And I don't really want to set up a new e-mail for this as well.)

Pretty sure they frown upon using the same email which is why dedicated my bro's defunct account to just stock and IS mechs when he didn't want to play anymore. I think Joseph said he has 4 accounts (one for each weight class), so he'd be the guy to ask.

I think your log in uses your e-mail address as your user name, right? E-mail and password to log in? So... I think I need to find that mystery second e-mail I have floating around...

Edit: I'm working on recovering my old Yahoo email account for this... but they locked the account and aren't getting back to me in any form for the past few hours.
Might just make a new Email account altogether for this... Still debating on if it's worth creating an account for stock mechs only. (I'd keep the 4J on this account, but sell off the other stock mechs I own here.) I've never been very good at juggling several different accounts...

Can't decide on a user name for my stock account. I could do boring MS Tesunie or Stock Tesunie. I could also go with Lt. Kataren and sound more military like... Decisions decisions...

Keep an eye out for a new hopeful. He's a fresh Lt who goes by the name Tesunie Kataren. We refer to him as Lt. Kataren (because it bugs him and he hates people being formal and using his title...).

AKA: My alt account for everything Stock is Lt Kataren. Spam him with friend requests as you deem necessary.
