Because PGI won't touch weapon/equipment weight as it breaks stock builds.

Once upon a time, people designing a turn-based board game decided to make it weigh 1 ton for some reason or other that I don't know. PGI, for better or for worse, chose to not stray from that specific design decision.

Fup...I would buy that until they decide to break design pts like double HS doing 1.4 rather than 2.0....
