Everynow and then when i am bored i pain my YLW in the "original" color... Because it takes some fairly big stones to drive a Mech that has pretty much all of it´s weapons on one side, sports an XL... And has a big honking bullseye on the same side torso that the weapon is attached to.
But some times i just like living on the edge =P =P
Most of my other mechs are actually painted in some kind of camouflage. I still hope we will get part 2 and 3 of mech modding... decals and alternate parts. But i know that is FAAAAAAAAAAAR off in the future.

@OP
Another thing to remember is alot of units/clans like to have a paint 'uniform'. Only colors I own are to look the part when dropping with my mates.

I get some people want to look unique , However in a pvp game if your on caustic and you see 3 normal atlases walking up , Then you see a big pink atlas.... Who's going to stand out more who are most likely to shoot first.
I feel its a tactical advantage , I actually saw a video on youtube with someone thanking someone for painting his mech and making it so easy to spot and kill him.

Considering that everything without ECM in sensor range has a GIANT RED BOX around them...paint as camo, or anti-camo isn't really that big a deal.

Camo doesn't do much with a big red triangle over your head.

From my Tactical tips thread.
---------------------------------------
"There is a reason armies wear uniforms even though they make them easier to spot. Sometimes that's what you want. Uniforms suggest organization, power, and numbers. These, in turn, inspire fear. And as any good operative knows, there is no more effective weapon than fear."
Wait...I thought our chief weapon was surprise?
Quote
Our chief weapon is surprise...surprise and fear...fear and surprise.... Our two weapons are fear and surprise...and ruthless efficiency.... Our *three* weapons are fear, surprise, and ruthless efficiency...and an almost fanatical devotion to our House.... Our *four*...no... *Amongst* our weapons.... Amongst our weaponry...are such elements as fear, surprise.... .

Camo is a nice notion, but with Red Triangles over our heads & random drops where your
black camo stands out in the snow - I'm not convinced it makes that much difference.
FWIW I painted my AC 20 + 2x LPL VTR-9S with red hot rod flames "because".

Heh. Oh there's definitely that but the Spanish Inquisition will never have enough organization to pull off the rest.
And yes, camo is a nice notion. I'd like it if thermal, night vision, etc. were modules to install and if River City actually had local area lighting with real light sources spread throughout it (destroyable, mind you).
Truth be told Battletech's units are like the British Colonial Army; they dress to stand out and intimidate in large numbers and perfect organization. But aside from flashy colors, that's pretty much it.
Against the British Colonial Army literally as you drop one, another one steps up to replace him; giving you the impression that they are not people but mindless automatons with the sole purpose of killing you. An endless stream of soldiers marching in formation, rifles pointed in your direction, firing and reloading on command. The purpose is fear and intimidation.
Except here, nothing says you can't shoot the commander.
Besides. "Your place is on fire."
(Edit: Also thought I was quoted in this thread. Semi embarrassing.)

It would be nice if we could store camo patterns that could be picked after we pick the map in the upcoming lobbies, so then we could instead go with something appropriate per the map. This can't happen until we have global unlock for camo's though.
