I've tried to enable the built in VOIP stuff but I never hear any voices? Is there anything else I need to do?

What is the best (or most popular) third party VOIP option to select? I haven't seen many options in picking servers, how do people coordinate to get into the same server?

One of the sticky threads here referred to TeamSpeak...I'm wondering will the Android and/or iOS clients work OK for this purpose? I've always wanted to be able to have sound effects come out of speakers but then use my headset just for voice communication and it seems that this could be a pretty cool set up.

Integrated voice only works if you install C3 along with MWO. Its all rather cobbled together prototype material and from understand its development has been put on a low priority. It also only works with other players who have installed C3. I don't think there are many of those.

In effect there is no voice coms in game unless you've using TS and have grouped up.

Yeah, they added a partial Voip solution over a year ago. No one uses it, and they haven't touched it since. I suppose they figure that everyone's public teamspeak servers fulfill that shortcoming. Look for the thread on these forums that list the ones available.

Teamspeak is just so prevalent that pretty much nothing else is used, (I know some people use IRC, Skype, and a few other programs) The majority of the player base that uses comms is Teamspeak based.

The client is free and it's super easy to use and download. If you do decide to download TS3 I will be happy to help you set it up. (it's a 2 step process, real simple)

Also, you might want to visit this thread if you decide to use it.

Also note that the C3 implementation does not and NEVER intended to pull in players in a match. It only pulls in the players in your premade group and only if you have the option enabled and C3 installed. And honestly if you're playing in a premade it's just easier to have TS3.

Team Speak is your best option currently. Hear is a list of servers on a PGI favored reddit (more helpful)
http://www.reddit.co...omms_directory/

Here is a similar list on a somewhat more realistic view of the current state of the game (more angry).
http://www.reddit.co..._comms_listing/

Both are good, both have their place in the verse

Just to revisit...yes C3 doesn't seem to add anything at all. I uninstalled it. It looked like there may have been some intentions that just never got implemented. It's too bad because integrated VOIP increases the quality of PUGs in terms of teamwork.

Also, yes TeamSpeak works on Android and I was easily able to do what I desired with Android (I have the sound coming out of my speakers and then my COM is via my bluetooth headset). The only downside is that I obviously can't use a keyboard command for push to talk and I'm not a fan of voice activated because I talk to myself sometimes lol

It's telling that C3 was mentioned last almost as an afterthought with the primary suggestion being TeamSpeak. This brings up two things:

1) Why not just remove the incomplete C3 functionality all together to avoid confusion (it's not likely to be developed soon with so many big features unfinished).
2) Why not just roll their own system in game like Battlefield and other games have?

1) Too busy with the aforementioned big features and other development areas to remove modules like C3 (or possibly laziness

2) Everyone is comfortable with TS3, including the dev team, and so they leave it as is. Plus 1)

Bump for TS. I've used Team Speak for about ten years now. There have been other third-party, free distribution VOIP systems out there. Somehow, it seems that TS is the king of free VOIP clients. It served me well in Ghost Recon and Battlefield 2, and it serves me well today in MWO. Seriously, use it. Jump into the Comstar server and find a group. Eventually, you'll find folks you work well with, and that's a GREAT feeling.

There ARE some really good, decent human beings playing this game.

TeamSpeak still rules the VIOP area because it is easy to set up and only requires an absolute minimum of internet resources which is beneficial to people with a weak internet connection. Skype needs a magnitude more resources compared to TeamSpeak, especially for VoiceChat which is why it's rather unpopular among dedicated gaming groups (also because it lacks both voice activation and push to talk).

There was another one back in the day, but I can't remember the name. More or less a rival for Team Speak. Some of the old Ghost Recon teams used to prefer it over Team Speak, so it could occasionally cause issues when matching in the Combat Zone's 5v5 ladder. Ventrilo, maybe?

This is very unfortunate. C3 would have significantly more use and value if it could put users within the match together or at the very least within the lance.

I know that some people use Mumble, but TeamSpeak is the go-to for the vast majority of players. I used to be skeptical that it wouldn't bog down my system, but I was running a 6 year old computer with absolutely no issues with TeamSpeak.

Yeah, I play on a 3 year-old iMac and often keep a sub-50 ping in MWO with TS3 running. Low-drag.

Yes, but with a goal of attracting more casual players I think having just a roll and go option would be good.

Yes absolutely, I'm in a clan and we use a very well organized and moderated teamspeak server. I'm just talking about for PUGs.

I use a 2012 iMac myself and it runs great. Yeah I never even had the slightest concern that teamspeak has caused any resource problems at all.
