It's good to have a module that's really useful but end of the day I find the game less fun for its current inclusion. Maybe double the price? It's a must-have and is pretty much spam in most matches. I get the concept - I do. And in general I approve. Currently though it's rare for me to see a match with less than 6 or 7 strikes. Higher end games are often close to 20 between arty and airstrikes.
Maybe three times the cooldown? A small damage nerf? Something. It's nice that I can trade 40k cbills for 200-400 damage guaranteed in a match regardless of how well or how poorly I play but it's just assumed that you'll see five or six in the first half of the match, with peoples second strikes saved for the last part of the match.
I do not find it a significant improvement in my MW:O experience. Much like the need to pack in ACs/PPCs if I want to run a competitive match (which you don't always) you need to pack and deploy one or two strikes in a match. It's just a given.
Which removes options and depth of play, not adds it. I'd rather it be valuable in the same way UAVs are valuable - in set situations and occasionally.
I support artillery nerf, as it is crowding out other modules. Whenever there is a tournament, it is just artillery fest. Imagine once CW arrives. Everyone will be tryharding with artillery. **** variety, amirite?
Actually I was wondering if I could have an achievement which awards my Fatlas with a bullseye patch for every arty/air strike it survives. (5 in 1 match I think is the most) it is particularly effective at attracting them. I find it quite funny when someone expends 40K on me for about 10% damage most times and I just keep shooting.
I'm not sure about nerfing them directly but they are becoming far too common IMO. Maybe up the cost a little more.

As far as "blobwarrior".. That's what ******* happens when lockdown texting is the only form of communication we have!
Well then, they'll remain juicy targets.
And talking about "blobwarriors", we just had another 12-0 rapefest when the enemy decided to form a blob and then chased around a squirrel (yours truly ) while the rest of my team formed a crescent and killed them. The best part of it all is that I (obviously) lived.
Lower the splash damage greatly, and halve the actual shell damage. At the same time, increase the splash radius. Make it an area denial weapon rather than an executor,
As I have said in similar threads, artillery is supposed to hurt you badly when it hits you, and have a chance -- no matter how small -- of killing you outright. Otherwise, it's not artillery. And as always, here is the obligatory video. See what happens to that 52-ton Israeli Centurion tank 18 seconds in.
I don't want to see it's damage get nerfed...but slower cooldowns, or maybe a rule that people could only bring arty OR air strikes could be a good change.

So does artillery in real life only cost 40,000 dollars per barrage?
I can happily play the 'realism' game with you all day and pull out the stats on just what the weapons being used in BT are.
Which is all irrelevant. Artillery and Air Strike are modules you buy for 40k. Currently they are a must-have for any match that's even vaguely competitive because compared to other modules they are utterly superior in every way to every other module. Just like Seismic was until it was nerfed, just like PPCs were until they were nerfed, just like UACs were before they were nerfed, etc.
It's a pretty much automatic 200-400 damage, which is 10 to 20 AC20 shells, when deployed even semi-intelligently. There's nothing else that compares to it. You bring one arty and one airstrike and never fire one shot and you'll leave the match with 300-700 damage. I know I have playing a Jenner with NARC. I did less than 100 damage with my lasers that match but TAG, NARC for GREAT JUSTICE for my team and I ended the match with over 600 damage thanks to arty and airstrike. I also had 9 assists and some component destruction.
Which isn't hard, or uncommon. Arty/Airstrike is a tax on space-poors. I've got money in the bank, I don't care if I barely break even on matches and can blow 40 to 80k per match and still be happy - thus I get an extra 200-800 damage per match?
It needs a nerf. Some sort of nerf; cooldown increase, splash decrease, some mix of those. Damage I don't have an issue with. It should hurt. It's that every match starts with 1 person popping out, dropping Arty/Airstrike to catch as many as they can, again and again and again before any fighting starts because it's an utterly superior module and anyone who can afford it has it.
The never-ending call for nerfs is the very reason we cannot have really nice things. Instead of calling for another one, why not have PGI consider what I have written on page 1?

Even better! Have every module include an option for doing 200-400 damage to the enemy! That'd be awesome. Just load up modules instead of weapons.
Other options for arty are great. All sorts of module options are great.
Consumables should not be a must-have however. Seismic got nerfed because it was OP'ed. Nerfing is not bad when something is OP'ed. I would agree that rather than the current model of nerfing everything down to pulse-laser usefulness it would be better to buff pulse lasers for example.
Currently though... yeah. Arty/Airstrikes are OPed. Slowed down, something needs to happen.
Role Warfare is severely lacking.
Mediums are a fairly rare sight.
Matchmaker fails often with giving one side a 200-300 ton advantage.
Most meta builds are all heavy/assault class.
There isn't much for light and medium pilots to do besides drop artillery. I normally run a catapult, but I prefer speed over FLD, so there's very little chance I can stand up to another heavy or assault running meta. I often use artillery for the sole purpose of softening the heavier guys up enough that I actually stand a chance.
As with all other balance issues, let's see how 3,3,3,3 plays out. I don't imagine I'll feel the need to use artillery nearly as much as I do now knowing I won't end up in a game with a 300 ton weight mismatch.
Even if I don't use it, I have the comfort of knowing its there... if it's not to tip the match in my team's favor, it's great for ballooning the damage stat. I collected like almost 400 pts of arty damage in one match (3-4 enemy targets in the citadel) and that accounted for 80+% of my damage for the match... subsequently I died in the match by an airstrike.
Anyone who hasn't played serious 12-mans don't understand the impact when it's used all over the place and then some. A tourney is just a glimpse of what serious CW matches will involve.

I don't care about what real life is like, I care about game balance.
We're piloting things that would collapse under their own weight anyways.
IMO it works fine at the moment, and whilst it's used a lot you have to make the choice between a one-shot single situation advantage and the always-on edge of an unlocked module.
The only change I would like to see is LRMs being able to impersonate artillery by doing speculative non-line-of-site shots.
Yeh, this shits' the bomb guys. So cool and great.
Seriously though, moments like this just suck all the fun out of the game and make you stare at your screen and go "Wow. What a shitty ******* game. Wtf was I piloting? Cuz I don't think it was a mech."

Isn't this a little bit hypocritical?
You don't mind pressing one button to alpha striking some poor guy in your Jagermech DD and coring him before he even knows your there but if some other guy presses one button and takes you out with artillery it's
"NERF IT!!! FFS PGI, FIX THIS"
I kinda think Artillery needs a nerf the same time FLD gets nerfed, no one shot kills for anyone.

Sure not every match is like that, but when you start playing @ higher Elo, you will see more of it on the field.
Ignorance to the matter is bliss... just imagine the e-sport people critiquing this...
This is nothing like the AWP in CounterStrike.. let's go RNG!

I have an idea...what about if the command console was what calls arty/air strikes? It would be more logical and would be a way to stop them from being over used.
feel free to rip that idea apart. I haven't thought long on it and arty is fine where it is for me.

I had the same thing happen to me, only it was from an AC40.
