Scientists have discovered that putting a tall enemy mech between you and the incoming LRMs is more effective than AMS at brawling ranges.

Also, if they've got multiple missiles boats, you can help one of them get a team kill if you do it right.

Nothing better than seeing that fresh Atlas/Banshee/Highlander crumple into a pile as their teammates unwittingly dump a couple of hundred missiles into their back.

*Note* This tactic is more or less an emergency tactic when repositioning to find cover is a worse option. You'll still eat a few LRMs, as well as the frontal alphas of the mech you're hugging, but at least you'll have the satisfaction of knowing how angry that guy must be that he's getting torn apart by his own missile boats.

Sounds like fun!

What do you do when that Atlas you're hugging alphas into your CT, though?

One heck of a training instructor you are, lol

Hugging one mech doesnt just mean you get an alpha from that one, it means you get hit by all the mechs around it too, so this is just another kamikaze suicide tactic. That doesn't mean you shouldn't use it, though. Just when you know you're dead anyway.

Nothing stopping you from twisting damage while using the enemy as a missile shield.

You're almost 100% likely to be in a bad spot if you have to use this tactic, and it's really more of making the best out of it, and maybe living long enough to get off a couple of more salvos into the enemy team.

I made this post because I've seen a lot of players who are in a bad position, getting shot up and LRMed, and die without making the other team pay any penalty. Make them strip their own assaults, and you can at least die laughing.

was doing this last night in a locusts while fighting an Atlus (I was last one alive)

there was a catapult on a hill firing LRMs at me and I would just hug the atlus as they came at me.

sadly I died due to some massive lag...but it was fun seeing like 40 missiles slamming into their own guy.

think this might work better on smaller mechs vs larger one. When you have a tiny thng next to the big thing and their whole team is shooting at you, they tend to beat up the guy you are leg humping.

Actually, I always try to "line up" enemy mechs like this when brawling. Either their teammates will try to shoot through them in order to shoot you, or they'll hold fire until they can maneuver into a better firing position. Either way, you only have to deal with the one mech.

I was mainly making a joke. I can see the merit of drawing enemy LRMs into the enemy's forward position.

An old, but incredibly fun tip. Most effective in a light (due to your short nature). But can be done using any short mech to great effect.

Here, we have an Orion using a Battlemaster as a shield from a leaping Griffin, while multiple Firestarters with AMS try to reduce the number of streaks being pumped out. The Orion makes his appearance to kill the Atlas. It's quite a hectic fight. But watch the Orion. Enjoy!

LRMs are funny when landing close to you due to their huge spread, I often try to hide behind enemy Atlas or Battlemaster (the tall boys) when I am about to get hit. On the other hand I already executed many of friendly light Mechs that were too close to my target. Someone must close the circle of life I suppose.

The worst is running by a recently dropped enemy mech and getting hit by a crapton of friendly lrm's that were still inbound.

Bleh. Back when I was a psycho light spec pilot I tried this tactic in my 2X and 4X ravens, and promptly died, while barely getting the enemy's armor to yellow. Maybe the changes in how LRMs work may make this a more viable strategy today, but it definitely didn't work like that last year. It seemed like all the missiles went through the Atlas' legs and cored me. I always chose the biggest, slowest enemy to hide behind, and it did absolute ****.

You have to be on the good side of those incoming missiles, which is the "other side"
