Can ANYONE tell me why people "test fire" their weapons at the start of the match? Please, because I really don't understand it.

Just last night I had someone shoot me TWICE, not even an apology. He also shot someone else too, so I think he was being a jerk on purpose for some unknown reason. This was all in the first 60 seconds of the game as well.

Now, when a match starts, I don’t even move out until my lance is gone and ahead of me. I never have (and never will) test fire my weapons. It makes no sense.

Please, can someone explain the purpose of test firing?

Sometimes, you want to group same weapons based on their locations (right arm/left arm for example). If you didn't get it right on the first try (and forgot to do so on the testing grounds), you might need to fire 2-3 times until you have the weapons you wanted. But normally, you do so while aiming at the ground or a rock.

Like, say, after PGI resets my weapons groupings during a patch and I don't notice it before I drop? That being said, you should move out of the drop area and maneuver to a place on the side of the formation so that you can shoot off to the side/into the ground with no ill effects.

My secret is to be easily recognizable.

My alternative solution is to point my weapons at the person who test-fired at me. When you see that, you won't do it again. Ever.

You gonna screw with this? There was a brawling Atlas that fried in 7 seconds and a Muromets that fried 4 seconds later.

Ironically, I am reading this while queuing for a match. :P Don't worry, I'm using ALT-TAB.

One problem is laptop touchpads. I've fired at friendlies by accident, because my hand grazed over the pad.

Koniving, is that an AC20, AC2x2, ERLL? I use to run that in my Banshee. :P

EDIT: nvm, just read the post you linked :P

I think a friendly fire penalty should be imposed on a player, until they have scored a hit on an enemy first. After that no penalty should be imposed. This would be easy to implement program wise, and would reduce the early friendly fire. It would also negate the heat of the battle friendly fire that occurs.

If you hit a teammate before you hit an enemy, then you deserve a penalty! Perhaps transfer the damage to the offending players mech.
