Did I say it was?
Try actually reading what I said.
Edit: let me put it this way
ANY of us could be making this game right now
ANY of us could have gotten the license from Microsoft.
Well....not ANY of us, except for the license thing. I'm pretty sure it wasn't too expensive....MS hasn't done anything with the title for a long, long time.
As for the making part...eh...just programmers, man. I couldn't do what they've done this far...except for screwing stuff up. I'm pretty good at screwing things up.
But that doesn't mean that there AREN'T some awesome programmers in the community. I'd bet that there are a lot of guys that are more up to date with the engine and probably have more experience with it than PGI does. I'd also bet that a lot of those guys would be more than happy to help...for free, even...if they had the ability to actually see what was being done.
Hell, they could even make mods of the game like....how about "The Battle of Tukayyid," where it's a series of a couple of maps, Clan vs IS, with actual goals determining the victor? I'm pretty sure something like that is pretty much beyond what PGI can pull off......but community programmers, if they had permission? I bet they could do it. And I bet they could fix some of the core problems as well....which PGI could take advantage of to advance the core game.
Never happen, though. When this ship sinks, it's taking everyone with it.

You don't like how PGI is doing it?
To bad - you should have been the one to get the license then.
Because you could have.
You don't like how PGI is doing it?
They are still hiring.
You don't like how PGI is doing it?
Try working with them - as opposed to constantly telling them how much they suck.
True enough. But, if PGI were better at communicating with it's community.....you know, the people that participate in their "test server" or provide feedback after every, single patch that's released as a half-completed, broken, already late band-aid that breaks more than it fixes....you might see fewer "complaint" posts.
Hey, I'll be the first to admit that I'm all over the "spit on PGI" bandwagon. But, even you have to admit that PGI brings a lot of it on themselves.
Every single time a patch is released, it fails to meet both the announced description and the expectations that were inflated due to communication with PGI. "Our next patch is going to blah de blah! We're introducing hoo de hoo!" And when it finally comes out....maybe, what, 15% of it actually works as advertised?
It's as if they completely ignore any and all feedback...including intelligent, well thought out solutions to some of their problems. Kind of almost as if they feel that unless a solution is overcomplicated, untested and poorly implemented...it's not worth doing.

Does ANY of that mean I believe we should be kissing their arse?
No.
But it does mean the state of the game is as much our fault as theirs.
Oh, absolutely. +1. But, we're not the ones that paid for the license...we're not the ones developing the game. One would think that if a company were to invest enough capital to purchase the license and attempt development of a product intended to provide income to said company, the company would treat the product as an investment.
With that investment comes responsibility. If the product is providing your company with income, it's in your best interest to continue to develop and improve that product so that it beats your competition. The better the product, the more income. It's basic stuff here.
We're not seeing a whole lot of responsibility coming out of PGI. Sure, they've done some great stuff and we're all here still playing, right? I mean, you'd have to be some kind of Troll to just arbitrarily post negativity about PGI and not actually experience the string of failures. They've got a monopoly on the Battletech Universe based stompy robots game....unless you reinstall the old MW titles, but you're not going to get any online activity out of it. Even Megamek shut down it's MW4 support.
So. Thank you PGI for providing an outlet for my Battlemech cravings. It's nowhere near perfect, and at many times virtually unplayable, but thanks for the effort.
