(1) I wouldn't treat it as a true MMO.
Basically, after 50 games (first 25 give a big cbill boost) - you can have the best mech in the game.
Games take 10 min.
After another 200, that mech will be approaching fully mastered. (You need 3 versions of a mech to master one).

You can replace 100 games with about $15.
Personally, I'd play each trial mech 10 times.

At this point, you'll have the equivalent of one max level fully geared "character".
Progression is acquiring and mastering new mechs, not better ones.

Definitely try it. It's free, and you can take six mo breaks without falling behind.

The forums are upset because it's not improving fast enough. So ignore them in terms of how fun the game is now.

Also:
Protip, build a mech in smurfy's (google mwo smurfys) before buying.
smurfys also lays out all game and gear info in a nice format.

Second, try teamspeak. Search forums. Comstar and NGNG teamspeak are very public and open.

The only question I have is that how'd you get into the forums other sections OP? The other sections besides the better sections (like the new player help section and the guides/strategies section) contain lots of negative feedback due to trolls, ragers, etc that would be found pretty much anywhere. But when you had said you went to other sections in the forums but still have the Recruit tag on... That's something interesting and does sound a bit of a troll, though I see that you aren't actually trolling. Anyway, I would suggest highly that you follow the game through and you can see for yourself. Wish you good luck in the battlefield and hope you stay around. :)

They can be read by anyone - they just cannot be posted in. :)

Little story.

My wife has repeatedly asked why I play a game that makes me into such a whiny little b*!@h.

What it comes down to, is....
Have you ever played high school basketball, and hit a 20 foot jumper over their center?
Or stepped up to the plate when you've got runners on 2nd and third and drove a ball into deep right field?

Because the feeling you get when one of those damndable little light mechs is running around you and you lead him with your ac/20 just right, and BLAM, the little ******* is gone... is exactly the same feeling. I'm still feeling great about a locust that was dancing between our entire team 3 days ago in Canyon, had everybody trying to kill it (hitting each other while trying). That sucker JJed up to the ledge above us, and just as he landed, my dual ac5 and ac 10 spoke, and he moved no more than it took to crumple to the ground. We still lost the game, of course, but it made my night and I'm still reveling in it 3 days later.

Wow, I'm late to the party.

In short, as a free to play game, there's little reason not to try it!

We do have a very vocal community here, and some parts of the community certainly have been very loud and very negative about the game and it's developers; All games do, to some extent. As a reboot of a long-lived franchise, there is a large pool of players who are already invested in the game, even before it came online. In part, people are complaining so loudly because they are so passionate about the Mechwarrior franchise, and PGI certainly has dropped the ball on occasion (although I do not agree with all arguments of the negative nancies, objectively speaking there are a significant number of missed deadlines and lack of foresight)

MWO is still getting warmed up. as evident by the addition of private matches a few days ago and by the upcoming clan mech preorders, although some features (such as community warfare) so far seem destined to always be in development. If you don't find something you like right now, then there may come a time when the game does have something to offer you, so I advise you check it out, ask a lot of questions, and form your own opinions.

Care to elaborate on that "Best mech in the game"?
Because, there is no such thing...

Yea. Shame that some sad trolls ruin everything as usual, even though most of the posters were helpful. But I guess you can take the internet away from morons but you cant get the morons out of the internet.

Honestly what Duster said. The game is flawed and has a couple of annoying things here and there, but the worst thing you can do is try it and go nah im not a fan.

You have to experience this game for a longer period of time. The "wow-effect" comes later. And you need nerves made of steel, trust me, cause if not you could go crazy and should visit the next insane asylum!

Depends on "the meta of the week" at one time it was the Dragon, then Jenner, then Catapult, then Catapult again, then it was the Raven, recently it was the Highlander. I've not been paying enough attention lately, so I'm not sure about which is "best" now, but there usually is one - it just won't stay consistent.

No. It is a Multiplayer Online Game, so people seem to prepend Massively without considering the meaning of the TLA.

OP, if every game was judged solely on what the internet and the forums say every single game would be garbage and not worth playing. I have yet to read a forum where the post aren't 90% negative saying the game sucks or the devs are crap.

I enjoy this game alot, it feels more rewarding to me than playing battlefield or cod style games. Building andTrying different loadouts is alot of fun.

Its free to play anyways, always try it out for yourself instead of relying on forums for a review
