I'm closer to retirement, than I care to admit, I've seen it all. That said,. I cant let my grand kid watch over my shoulder at the cool stompy tank game due to the amount of utter nonsense I see.
I play pugs, so I dont notice, nor care, but those sharp little eyes spot words that are filtered here? but make it to chat? how hard is it?
not like match making or fixing the UI or missiles or making gold mechs, but could we PLEASE get a chat filter option?

of course we want this, would be nice ;) . Unfortunate thing, many people would just switch up a letter or two so the chat filter wouldn't sensor their foul words. A chat sensor is better than no sensor though I presume. To makes things better for myself, I'd like an option to disable chat all together.....or maybe disable global chat and only view team chat, etc.

A good solution as far as I can tell (although perhaps too sophisticated for PGI to implement), would be an optional client-side filter. Since it's only there if you want it, sailors wouldn't have an impetus to circumvent the filter, and players like Dawg could eliminate that sort of thing.

Oh...I've lead a colorful life, I find the usage of vulgar expressions interesting and quickly paint who I'm dealing with. Same reason I use head sets when my kids are around, my dear friends will slip, as do I, in the company of like minded adults.
The 12 year old actually wants to play, but its not going to happen other than training maps.
Odd shit **** piss is filtered out HERE, but not in game? *** ;)

whoa, I didn't realise two of the three are not filtered.
which begs to query, if I type in the devs are ********** and can suck ****

edit 3, interesting..who deems this is bad, that is good?
ok, back to work

Still no chat filter? We can't say you're a ******* **** here, but the chat bar is ok?
The amount of vulgarity that was in the chat bar last night......sure, some was hilarious. Some..more like a teenager trying to keep up with the big guys.
Most was simply illiterate basement dwellers......**** is spelled ck at the end......***hole has TWO 's's in it...took me a minute to figure that one out...

HEY, maybe PGI could make a it a module, or a MC filter we could buy like premium, 1, 3, 5, 7, 30 days?

Toggle-able, sure. Some people don't mind, but it would make parents a whole lot happier about letting their kids play.

On that note, I think this game is good fro younger kids (unlike Call of Duty). Big robots with guns and lasers. They'd love it even if they kept dying. I know I loved Mechwarrior even though I never did anything besides stare at the PPC and Gauss Rifle animations on MechCommander.

Not sure where the post is, but they had long since mentioned no filter for in-game chat.

Of course things change, but considering the other things that are being worked on (Community Warfare UI) and not so many resources.

If you know how to integrate aforementioned filter, click the now hiring ad, join PGI/IGP, ninja the filter and leave.

We can only hope it will get added in after Community Warfare stuff.

Other than that, not sure what else to do but sadly put a sticker over the chat portion of the screen.

Albeit counter productive as you do need to communicate... however, if you do notify the offenders that a young MechWarior is present, they should hopefully not use the language.

If that causes major lash back, screenshot, e-mail support@mwomercs.com, as it's harassment after the fact.

I will be totally honest here.. I am far from being a concerned parent, all the opposite. I have no issue with vulgar words, after all most of the time the people writing them are just insulting other players and often making themselves look stupid.

I believe there is a HUGE amount of small things that should be added/fixed before a chat filter. Our world is not all roses and violets, and if teens cannot deal with it they will have a hard time dealing with reality. This is the hard truth i have learned in my 17 years of life.

Besides, in most games the most vulgar players are, guess who? The 14 y.o. kids

I sort of vacillated on whether or not to reply.
Over the last 20-30 years we have simply accepted more and more unacceptable behavior. Either under the guise of lifes not a bed of roses, kids see worse on the internet, or its on cable now (back when TV was the only game in town)
Mine know whats right, whats wrong, and dont have bad dreams if someone says you're a dumb ****.....that is not the point AT ALL.

So, lemme get this right, we are to accept the chat vulgarity, why not here?
What the dip stick double standard is that? I can spew idiocy in that chat bar, but its filtered here? Why then?
That said, its a pity you're not concerned. Complacency is learned. That is precisely why it is important to say something.

I'd prefer not to see it, and I spent most of my life working in the trades, no stranger to much worse language. Again, not the point. A toggle feature is offered on just about all games I've seen.

Please not one of those "I don't care about what you have to suggest as a feature because X or Y is more pressing".
This is just a suggestion please handle it accordingly.

To the OP, this is a game the simulates combat, and war, if you fear for your children this might not be the right game for them.

This is true, indeed. But then, there are a ton of other small things that are offered on just about all the games i have seen. If we agree it is a matter of priority, then it comes down to personal opinions.

If you believe that among said small things a chat filter is the top priority, that is fine. You are making hear your voice and create a discussion. That is the purpose of these forums. I have a different opinion, and that should be fine too, quiaff?

Maybe i have missed a bit your point in my previous post. Anyway, i am glad you chose to reply.

Oh, and i think i would have been "complacent" if i had just read this thread and moved on. Instead, i chose to say something

Hmm, did i say that? I think i just said that i do not see such a great need for this feature and there are more pressing features.

I think this should be within "discussing a feature suggestion". If i propose to add flying chickens in the game, other people will discuss my idea; they may think that it is not a feature they want to see at all, or just not now. Sure, PGI would have the power to implement flying chickens anyway, but i do not see why the other forum users cannot express their opinion about the need and priority of such a feature

EDIT: Whoops, double post instead of editing, my mistake.

Wouldn't flying chickens actually take more work than adding a filter to the chat code?
Yes. I'm pretty sure it would.
And to quote Russ, there is no monetary gain in making flying chickens. Unless its a clan chicken. Or an MC boost, like UAV launch. Not sure what damage the chicken could do, or even how long to suggest it might stay airborn considering chickens are pretty much flightless, like using the feature suggestion forum.
I mean, you know, compared to a 10 year old kid reading something disparaging about their sexual orientation or their mothers race. And stuff
