So now that TrackIR is working, I was wondering if Freetrack also works with MWO.

I put 3 IR LED's on my headphones and together with a cheap webcam and an old floppydisk (as a visible light filter), I was able to get Freetrack working and use it in War Thunder to look around the cockpit. A really nice immersion-enhancing feature for only €25. I was really happy and proud with myself! B)

In MWO however, Freetrack seems to detect that MWO has started but I does not do anything ingame. Apparently, TrackIR emulation does not work since they implemented some form of encryption. I found a "TrackIR Fixer", but it does not support MWO at this moment. :P

Does anyone have a suggestion how to make this cheap head-tracking system working? Will there be official Freetrack support in the future? Or maybe there are some alternatives to Freetrack? Or maybe I can use the TrackIR software with my own head-tracking system? :D

My understanding is that only Track IR will work. The open source versions do not.

Currently the only way that MWO can receive head motion information is via the TrackIR API.

TrackIR have recently introduced an "Encrypted" API, which uses a copyrighted haiku poem to deny access to all other types of headtracker. The MWO devs either did not know that it was possible to remove this limitation (By commenting out a line in the API, or causing the game to report itself as a different game), or lacked the balls to do so (Though NaturalPoint have little legal grounds to do anything about it).

Until MWO supports control of head motion via an open API (eg Freetrack) or via another method (ie joystick input) then no, it is not possible without hacks such as TrackIR fixer.
Unfortunately, that app is now discontinued, and my efforts to contact it's devs have been fruitless.
