So I bought 7800 MC (20%bonus) and decided to go for assault mechs the first time. I bought the Dragon Slayer and have been playing around with 2xASRM6 and PPC's. I know the metaslayer with 2PPC's and 2 AC5, but is there any other good builds?

Also, any tips for playing in a Victor? (or in an assault in general).

Mostly right-heavy stuff works. You typically put UAC5+AC5 or Gauss on the right arm, and add big energy (2xPPC or PPC+ERPPC) on the right torso. Take either 3+ JJs and XL325+ for high mobility, or drop down to STD295 if you prefer maximum survivability. Missiles may be fun once SRMs are fixed, but they are backup, not the main weapon system. Gauss+3xML+SRM10 or something similar may be interesting for more up close action.

The tips are different for a Victor than for other assaults. You get big mobility, so you can flank and relocate to support much faster. Use that to ruin people's days. This is not the "slowly lead the team and trade shots" mech, this is the "how the **** did it show up here" mech. As with most mechs, make sure to be jumping, running, and twisting all the time.

DS used to be great. It used to be my favorite Mech.

Since PGI nerfed it, it's become just an under-armored assault with slower torso twist than an Atlas, mostly good just for pop-tarting. Even Heavies can now run rings around you, as you try in vain to turn fast enough to shoot them.

As it has neither the advantages of an Assault (ie lots of armor) nor the advantage of manuverability, I've parked my 4 Victors in the hangar and hoped that PGI comes to its senses and gives them back their raison d'etre.

This is what I run. not much DPS, and certainly not an alpha king, but it has a nice mix of both.

It's fairly similar to the stock loadout, even kept the same engine. It does feel a lot better with the large lasers and the ERPPC eliminates that pesky minimum range.

It runs surprisingly cool - armor values to taste.

How is that thing cool? Do you just not use the LLs?

You use ERPPC+Gauss at long range, then switch to 2xLL+Gauss when things get closer, with the ERPPC added when heat permits (depending on the map).
