This game has the potential to be <insert any mmo here> killer.

It's literally the most anticipated game from a si-fi perspective to anyone who's been awaiting a sequel. This is one of the few games in the world where word of mouth would carry it to success. So, after reading the QnA I've come to the conclusion that you are in effect jumping the shark before it's released.

Since this game is the most anticipated game (at least in my library of wtb titles), why are you rushing out a half *** game that is essentially a League of Legends/Hero's of Newerth re-skinned into a FPS Mech game?

Not making it a persistent MMO (as it is in EVE), or not even considering an MMO with it is in my very humble yet blunt opinion, stupid. The amount of lore and involved mechanics Battle Tech brings to the table makes it ideal for this exact type of MMO. It's also primed for it and very little needs to be developed as CCP has done most of the leg work for you. Yes, it's risky to make this type of game as if you fail, you lose. However, playing it safe will only ruin your future prospects and respect from the gaming community. The reason CCP's EVE Online remains literally the only MMO with consistent sub increases is that the company takes risks and has earned the respect of the gaming community for it.

Battle Tech/MechWarrior are not simple, log in and shoot for 20 minute games. They are complex universes with lore and background that has layers of depth to explore and learn. The idea of what people have been expecting for the next iteration in the Mechwarrior line is not a BF3/MW3 but with mechs copy and paste. At least try to come close to an MMO and line it up with what World of Tanks has done.

Please, you've worked hard to get the IP back and be able to Reboot this franchise. Please don't shoot yourselves in the foot by releasing a crap game that the fans will shun and throw rotten fruit at.

Who says they're rushing anything? Maybe they've wisely decided to make it not-an-MMORPG because they realized that a MMORPG Mechwarrior would suck, and not because they're trying to get it out sooner.

They may well be planning to expand the level of persistence later on to some degree; starting simple is easier, cheaper and safer.

Either way I'm happy to see MechWarrior return in any form. :)

Their QnA says they're rushing.

I was too until I read that QnA. I've played the table top and gone through every other release of Mechwarrior released on PC. I used to go to the arcade that had the pods you could get into and fight people with.

I'm a huge fan, however, with what's on the market, everything they discuss in the QnA makes this version sound like just another cookie cutter F2P game that's being mass coded and pushed out for sale. Look at what they did with Duke Nukem.

"I don't like what they said about the thing that they said!" We've done this already and it hasn't even been a month since the announcement; can we put this sort of thing off until the game actually starts?

This game will appeal to people who enjoy simple games.

Which is exactly what Mechwarrior was not.

Thread needs to be locked/erased. Said OP is not constructive in anyway, and is jumping to conclusions on things he or the public has no idea.

How long has the game been in development? how far along is development? (is more of the game on paper or code currently)

[PAUL] The game has been in development for a short period of time following a fairly lengthy pre-production cycle. That being said, our internal engineering team is burning through code faster than words can describe. There’s a passion driving them to make the best MechWarrior® game for the players and fans around the world.

[MATT C] The key goal with the release schedule is, to release a solid chunk of core gameplay and content that reflect the pillars that have already been described. Beyond that, we’ll be very anxious to see how it is received by the community.
[MATT N] 2762.5 , Not Alpha Yet, We don’t use paper.

so, they're pumping out code to capitalize on.

@PK: My op is very constructive.

All that says is that they haven't been working on it for very long and are working hard on it to meet the deadline. Either you're trolling or missing the point there. Either way I agree with PK, this should be deleted.

I'm a pessimist, but even I can't see this game ending up being as simple as Mechwarrior 4. If the 2009 trailer for the then-planned game is anything to go by, Mechwarrior Online is likely to be at least as complex as Mechwarrior 3.

You're taking a game developed in the early 1990's and comparing it to what's on the market now.

In terms of complexity, MW:O should be leaps and bounds above what MW:3/4 was. We're talking over 20 years of technology and development. Not to mention that they don't even need to develop a game engine. Everything is being handed to them on a silver platter. Anyone who can't see through the smoke and mirrors has the wool pulled over their eyes.

They're pumpin' out the code to feed you something that's already out on the market so they can capitalize off a well known name. Just like they did with Duke Nukem.

The quote you are referring to has been miss understood. It was a term of endearment from a designer, expressing his opinion of how awesome our engineers are doing.
