Asymmetric builds
These are some of my favorite builds that have worked very well for me for three reasons.

1) suppression
2) enemy cockpit jarring
3) appropriate power though ghost damage.

What I like to call the Wambo-Combo is a mech that has a AC/2 and and AC/10 mounted on the mech. The AC/2 suppresses causing the cockpit of the enemy mech to jumble but also firing the AC/10 to keep the mech off balance and do ghost damage. Most pilots will recognize when they are being shot at by an AC/2. However when mixing the AC/2 with the AC/10 the enemy pilot will either be suppressed right away and run for cover or try to go toe to toe with you. either way it can work for your team. you can keep the enemy off your buddies back but still kill them if you need some firepower.

hope this is helpful!

Mechs I have done this with are:
Centurion- D (AC/2, AC/10, 2 MED lasers) (500+) reg
Highlander- HM (AC/2, AC/10, 2 PPCs) high damage (700+) reg

I like 2 ballistic hard points on a mech that is a medium and above to do this.
Hope this is helpful to you!

I like those kind of builds but at certain point I found that the build requires you to face the enemy and this leaves you vulnerable to precision fire from the enemy. It works great and keeps the target your firing on from returning fire effectively but the lack of defensive twisting means his buddies can hit you where it will hurt the most.

Another build is an LRM build (25 tubes) pairing an AC/2 with an UAC/5. When the 5 jams, the 2 keeps pounding. Only a few mechs will sit back and take the punishment with the shakes, most run behind cover. I use this on my Protector with 3 Medium lasers for an extra punch of they decide to pursue and not run away. Average damage is around 400-800 with the occasional 900+.
