Anyone else tired of the SRM / LRM debates and feel like it is time to open up the mechs for MRMs? http://www.sarna.net/wiki/MRM-40

You know what I am talking about, lets bridge that gap and get rolling on this. I am guessing since they came out in 3058 and the invasion is around 3049, the reason I don't get them yet is the timeline.. correct? Come on, lets just release the betas of the MRMs as I want to get rolling on massive missile mayhem!

Thoughts?

Pros:
  • Would improve our desperately stale weapon variety with a new choice
  • Missiles as a whole would now play a bigger part in the overall "meta," due to the good range and damage of MRMs (also being direct-fire, so they don't need locks -- can't be blocked by ECM)
Cons:
  • SRMs would become (even more) obsolete because MRMs pack almost the same damage per ton while also having waaay more range. An SRM6 is 3 tons and does 12 damage out to 270m, whereas an MRM10 is 3 tons and does 10 damage out to 450m.

Of course, we can easily solve the con by just buffing SRMs, but those things don't happen very often any more...especially because Paul said our current 2.0 damage per missile was "temporary" until hit detection is improved (then they'll be back down to 1.5).

I'd rather see perhaps an SRM range increase- keeping the same optimal range but with some additional range featuring weapon drop and something like a percentage chance per additionam meter of each SRM self-exploding
