Hi!

I have been reading a few threads recently where people discussed what stats are the most important in calculating ones performance and the elo rating for the matchmaker.

Now I am wondering, wouldn't the best way to calculate something like elo be (XP - (xp bonus from premium time))/ matches played?

Any action that can be beneficial to you or your team gives xp doesn't it?

So if one knew the base (unaltered) xp gained over a number of matches that would be a pretty effective indicator of ones performance?

More indicative than taking the k/d ratio or the w/l ratio because it implies all those no?

Been said before. LOTS of good ideas have been put forth. The problems with the Elo system have been pointed out, discussed and ultimately ignored.

Dude. If it's not overcomplicated and broken, PGI can't do it.

No Elo is independent of XP as the weight factors are different. Its track through a weighted win/loss system. Best way to track it to my knowledge is through game score and can only assume that all losses are subtracted while all wins are added. I know my net score otherwise is greater than 2700, but I believe I play in an Elo bracket more around 1700.

We just do not know how the system works in full.

I do wish Elo for solo, 4-man, and 12-man was tracked separately. Because solo play scores are pretty worthless with the pug lottery.

Basically calculating Elo requires a spreadsheet with a record of your game score of every game played since Elo was introduced or when you started playing (whichever is more recent).

Elo is part of the match maker, but not THE matchmaker. There are other factors involved, and it is widely speculated that your match score is also part of the matchmaker.

Wouldn't you also need to know the Elo of the teams you're facing?

And OP:

You can have a GREAT game and still not win, thus XP is NOT an indicator or useful in calculating Elo at all. If I have the greatest game of my life, it would improve my XP derived average. However, if I lost the match, my Elo drops no matter what.

No that only determines your weighted Elo gain or loss for a given match. It is useless in calculating your current Elo.

Currently you have 4 ELO scores. On for each weight Class group (Light, Medium, Heavy, & Assault)

They only thing that currently Effects your ELO is the Win Loss count.
It is Unknown how much a Win is worth or how Much you lose when you have a defeat

It's not difficult to farm for XP while not helping your team. An example of this would be running around trying to hit every mech at least once, for the assists. It gives quite a bit of XP, but you're wasting an incredible amount of time doing it.

Hence the spreadsheet. Track the win/loss and corresponding game score as a positive/negative respectively for each weight class and net the increase/decrease against a starting Elo of 1300 for each weight class. In theory that should give the Elo for a given weight class. Of course I have never heard of anyone actually keeping a record and PGI confirming if their calculation was accurate or not so it is only theory right now.
