As Atlas have gorilla arms any feature like this is a warm welcome. As a veteran pilot i sometimes still make some mistakes that i shoot obstructing terrain. Even when i think it's "clear".

It's very annoying, sometimes its hard to see if i am high enough to take a clear shot.
I will give you a headstart and a mockup how something like this can look like. This is just basic idea, PGI can decide whatever they suits it best.

The following picture is what i have come up with. Captured in a Atlas.

As you can see there are 3 indicators. (More depending on build) but is fairly simple. Full red circle means there is a arm or more blocked. A half vertical grey / black / opaque grey means sight is for both laser and ballistic is clear..

I like the idea of a blocking terrain sensor, but not just for the Atlas, for any 'mech.

Orignally started for Atlas. But as it sounds; for other general mechs it would be great too.

How about changing the title of the topic and also adding a poll to it? Just a thought.

Note we already have 6 icons surrounding the crosshair which indicate weapon group. Perhaps colour-coding these group icons or adding an icon inside of them(a contrasting colour circle or x inside the box would do) would be sufficient to indicate which weapon groups have a shot blocked by terrain (and whether it's the left or right or whatever would require the pilot to determine)

I have made it this way because when you are aiming at a target, your eyes is useally in the middle of the screen (the corsair) if you have to watch in the corners for example your damage you will lose sometimes valueable time to respond or react or whatever action you want to take to unblock your side of your mechs' arm / ballistic.

The icons you are proposing to add are pretty much just as far from the center as the current weapon group indicators, and adding more clutter. The idea is are kindas supposed to be able to read the existing weapon group indicators without taking your eye off the crosshair

I can read it perfectly fine without getting my eyes drawn off the corshair. Look at the second image at the corshair.

I will leave that up to PGI. It's just a basic mockup :o.

Not sure, but somehow, also NO.

no 1. its a bit up to the pilots experience to know when his firing line is free. No.1 don't be that lazy, just maake the left gun another group than the right one. So you can singlefire one laser without wasting heat for the other.

A lot more annoying atm is if you DO have a clear line of sight but the rocks hitbox is like 2m more width than the graphic of it.
On the other side, such an indicator would in this situation help to identify this as well.

Another good reason for this to exist.

MW3....If you used look left or right...would NOT SHOOT WEAPONS that were not in your crosshair wasting precious ammo and causing waste heat. Just saying. 15 years later this not in? Whatever.
