So I finally gave up and bought a 4770k. With the "old" setup (7850K, R9 290X, 8 GB DDR3 2400) this poorly optimized heap of code that PGI calls a game was doing ~30 FPS in fights (low everything, 1080p). With the 4770K it does ~120(highest settings every eye candy on). Moral of the story: If you plan on playing this "game" buy Intel.

Envy. Fx8350@5ghz with 7970 dips to low 20fps.

And on the Good/ Bad Scale, that would be bad

Sadly I saw this coming a while back...

Even with my dated Phenom II x6 1100t clocked to 4.2ghz I don't have the problems I see people with AMD FX-series CPUs, even in the range of the FX-8350 clocked to 4.8ghz.

The amount of money i'm throwing at my new intel build (has been a year in the making), is a little bit high for my liking, but I have seen Intel literally just take a huge steaming dump on AMD in terms of what kinds of RTS titles I run, and other applications.

I managed to skip the AMD FX-series CPUs, with the exception of an older FX-8120, even clocking the snot out of that FX-8120, it didn't give me anywhere near the performance boost it should have over a Phenom II x6 1100t..

MWO is tough on the FX-series CPUs, it just doesn't like them, and neither do RTS titles compared to the newer Intel CPUs.

I'm not saying the FX-series are complete trash at all, but it just doesn't make sense for me to buy an AMD FX-series CPU as an upgrade for what I do.

EDIT: The FX-8120 I have was gifted to me by someone that was going to toss it into the bin..

get ~50fps on canyon, hpg, ~30 on solar.
is there a way to get more? (other than switch to intel =)

In Nividia or AMD, set Anisotropic Filter 16x

Try the game without AA, but if you are going with an AA, FXAA is the least demanding while MSAA can be more balanced. Just remember that running on the Testing Grounds is totally different from Live game due to the extra work going on in the background, ie this is where higher CPU helps.

Set Environment to low and you get way more.
Dont know i did not test it recently but maybe 2,5 years ago my FX8350 could do up to 170 FPS Peak and dipped to the 40s on heavy Action.
I have capped my FPS to 60 and run particles on high bcs i dont like Missiles having no smoke trail and PPC looking like big blue flying spermatozoa which in return harms my low FPS pretty much.
But you can still increase your avg FPS that way.

PS: Did not edit any MWO System file for that...
