Whenever balance issues come up and people discuss changing stats, I do not recall ever seeing anyone suggest changes to Weapon Health. Other than the AC/20 being 18 and the Gauss being 5, it seems odd every other weapon has 10 health. There should be some variation between them.

Agree'd with the gauss being explosive and heavier you'd think the IS would have thrown some armor on it. Gauss should be like 15 and AC/20 be like 5...AC/10 be 8, AC/5 be 6, and AC/2 be 10
PPCs I believe were supposed to be harder to hit than lasers so perhaps laser be small - 10, medium - 8, heavy - 6 reflecting the size of the firing lens, PPC would be like 15.

The only items that have ever had item health changes were the Gauss to 3, the AC20 to 18 and then the Gauss to 8.

I have always been an advocate of the AC-10 being stronger to set it apart from the eventual solid slug LBX. .

I'd like to see some variation on the weapon health also. Seems like PGI is slower than molasses to make balance changes of any kind for some reason unbeknownst to us.

I agree with the OP; giving different pieces of equipment different amounts of health was one of the cleverest balancing decisions to come out of PGI. An AC-20 is a big, beefy chunk of metal, and it makes perfect sense that it should take more firepower to disable than a tiny, lightweight and partly-made-of-glass laser.
Of course being a sensible and well thought out idea, it's no surprise that PGI visited it once briefly and then completely forgot about it forever.

What in in the Sam Hall are you talking about? They made an adjustment or two to weapon health (months ago).

Weapon Health should be proportional to the number of crit slots the weapon takes up. Bigger weapons should be more resilient to getting critted than smaller weapons. Its silly that an AC/10 is as easy to crit as a medium laser.
It should be a formula like 9 base health + 1 additional health per crit slot.
Examples:
Medium Laser: 9+1 = 10 health
PPC: 9+3 = 12 health
Autocannon/10: 9+7 = 16 health
Autocannon/20: 9+10 = 19 health
Although certain advanced weapons like Gauss would be more susceptible to crits because of the sheer complexity of the weapon. Although I personally think 5 health is too low for Gauss. 8 health is probably more reasonable.

Is this the damage the weapons do or the armor? (Hull?)
