According to my calculations:

Paul is now heading for Mexico with enough 'spending cash' to topple a South American government, Russ is swimming in a comically large (Scrooge McDuck) sized pool filled with doubloons, and Bryan finished paying for his moon base, complete with an Eiffel Tower sized space laser.

I'm deathly afraid that
<<<<<< this gold thingy

is gonna be tattooed on me somewhere by the time I wake up.

Not to shabby...for an Indie game :D.

But honestly, if you compare it to today's costs for making games, it's still a ridicule amount of money.
But I don't care, I still gladly paid for Russ's pool and for Paul's...new government I guess...

It is a lot of money, BUT it's all money to recuperate the costs of developing the game. They have to pay everybody to work on the game for the whole development cycle. They have to pay for the datacenter and servers, (which is apparently what they are putting together now for second stage of closed beta). With all of that I suspect they have not yet made back all of that money, but they have made a dent in it, gauged how many servers they are going to need to set up for live, and likely shown to investors that they have a selling product.

For a lot of us, the amount spent on the Founder's package is going to represent all the money that they are going to get from the player. For example my Elite package is going to be all I am willing to spend on the game for a few months after release. If I really enjoy it I'll get a premium subscription, but I have 2 free months of that before I'll even consider giving them another cent.

I would be surprised if they ever beat today's income. From here on out it will be slow and steady, but it will also be where they start actually making profits, rather than recouping costs.

Given how long the game has been in development, I doubt they've turned a profit yet. There are still investors to pay and plenty of salaries to worry about, but it shouldn't be a concern. Most F2P models are successful just because it lets people pay however much they think the game is worth to them (or they can afford), so I imagine MWO will be around a good while. I expect they'll turn a profit in the first year...

...if they can keep Paul from going AWOL with that dough.
