So as I've seen some SJR guys running around some of us decided to try it out again and to my surprise it's a monster of a build again.
I was snapping 'mechs in half in two or three shots, and dropping lights in one.

Ember: "WTF was that?"
Me: "Gauss Rifle & 2PPC"
Ember: "Old schoolz, eh?"

So I managed to slap the ER PPC and a Gauss onto my Shadowhawk and sure enough I was doing a large amount of damage it and it is super cool (it's heat).
So you might want to get rid of those AC 5's and U/AC 5's for some Gauss rifle action.

They never really went away, it's just a matter of Gauss being tougher to sync with your other guns.

If you can do it? Still quite effective, just tougher to get down pat.

I tend to use the combination with my Victor-ds since I cannot mount an Ac20 and those energy-hardpoints in the torso does help a lot. Runs fairly well.

The Meta was 2x U/AC 5, and 2x PPC. It was always kinda around but it seems to becoming more and more popular again. Also with the buff the Gauss got with the movement speed helps keep the alpha together unlike AC's atm.

poptarting never left, although Gauss was removed by most players due to the charge mechanic. Essentially you are paying an extra ton for the privilege of adding a charge-up timer to you weapon loadout as well as the possibility of a devastating weapon explosion.

gauss rifle + ER PPC = 25 damage, 16 heat, 25+ tons vs.
2xPPC + AC5 = 25 damage, 21 heat, 24+ tons

I am still uncertain if PGI over-thinks, or under-thinks their design decisions. Sometimes they follow a long meandering path that eventually winds up at the wrong decision, and other times they jump immediately to the wrong decision.

You need arround 1 week to manage how to use gauss like before, pretty much gauss + 2PPC is still viable. :D

Gauss + 2xPPC = 32+ tons. While am not going to argue that the meta hasn't always been assaults. I think the OP was trying to fit this on a medium, just in case PGI figures out how to add 3+3+3+3 (2.5 weeks and counting guys).

well, not into the poptart mess, but my AS7-RS never left the Gauss (in fact, I found it so slow and stable it was a great turret for it, lol). 325 Standard, Gauss Rifle, 4 Large Lasers and Adv Zoom. Usualyl stay back and Gauss people beginning of the match, then slowly, inexorably, roll over them with my lasers with the certainty of pyroclastic flow.

Oh my Gauss!! Someone has figured out the best weapon in the game.

Speed @ 2000m/s and 15 dmg pinpoint = win.

theyre probably practicing for 2 gauss, 2 erppc daishis. that build will kill most mechs in 3-4 hits.

Never tried poptarting with the gauss+2ppc, but its easy to sync. Hold gauss, as soon as m1 is let go, hit m2 (like a seesaw with your index and middle fingers).

Or we could play balanced builds that dont result in 12-2 curb stomping and use more than one mech type with more than the two same weapons.

Chess isnt very fun when one side brings nothing but queens to the board.
