I'd like a ladder/ranking system similar to what SC2 has..

Just got in a match where I was one of two players that did more than double digit damage.. because the whole team wanted to use the mighty base turrets for cover..

i pretty much share your feeling bud

The reason the game is hell on new players is because the vets are jerks. They build out the most meta thing they can and swarm obviously inexperienced mechs who get caught alone or can't shoot for anything.

No its not the fault of the elite pilots - it is the fault of the developers having a system that puts in a range of players so complete newbs get mashed up with vets, then on top of that elo sucks and 3/3/3/3 is broken so there is literally no balance to the drops...

Pretty much that.

The problem with ELO is it doesnt work in 12v12.

For ELO to work, a player has to be able to significantly impact his or her teams chance of winning.

In 8v8, one person could consistently carry their team and influence their teams ability to win.

In 12v12, one person cant really make a difference, theres just too many enemy mechs on the other team for one person to kill. So ELO breaks down in 12v12 and simply stops working.

Almost all of my 6 kill games where losses. These are with 700-950 dmg normally. I've had games with 1200k+ dmg and 9+ people on my team didn't even make it into triple digits, 3 in single digits. I think it was the "carry harder" thread, I posted a screen shot where I did more dmg than 10 people on my team combined. Something needs adjusting when you can lose 15 games in a row, if elo was that great you should be able to not even play and just randomly win a game by accident. I think you are absolutely right, with smaller teams each person has a better chance of changing the outcome.

part of the problem might be when and which day of the week you play - i get my days off on weekdays so i'l play in the middle of the day on a wednesday and i'l do much better in comparison to when i sneak a few games in on the weekends after work when i'l be thrown in with people who have an ELO similar to mine (i have a med-high ELO) since a LOT more people will be playing on a saturday night in comparison to mid-afternoon wednesday

overall i find the games a LOT tighter on the weekends compared to weekday games since that's when everybody comes out and plays. i would guess there might be 50-100 people playing at any given time on a weekday, 100-200 on weeknights, while on the weekend i would think there might be hundreds or even up to or over 1000 people playing so there are better ELO matchups - but these are really just wild guess estimates based on playing for over a year on a daily basis

maybe your right that elo doesnt works with bigger groups. lets see it this way. team 1 gets 10 bambis players and 2 good. in that case, if the 10 bambi are not usefull to the team the 2 players cant do much cuz they most likely have to deal with a huge amount of enemies... as iam not sure how the elo team composition looks like i cant tell you wether true or not. but at the end elo mm is not working

Again: Elo doesnt looks for individual Elo Points.... Instead it compares the total Team Elo Poitns with the other team.. That what it does

I don't think so. It puts each of the players in one of 3 buckets of similar ranked players and then draws from those buckets. The buckets are fairly wide, but it does consider the individual player, not the team.

If you're dropping in a 2-4 man group, then the groups average is used to match that small group with other players.

See this explanation of how Elo and MM works.

Do you honestly believe that small a player base is keeping over 50 people employed? Plus the overhead of equipment and square footage?

I just don't see how it could be that small. There has to be a much larger player base than your guess to keep the lights on and the investors happy. Plus there are royalties to Microsoft and you know they don't give anything away.

Otherwise we'd never have seen this. PGI has rights to the MW brand until mid 2018 and possibly out to 2020 if certain criteria are met.

No way a few thousand people are keeping this game going.

mEH. Elo is filling teams with same ELo... Means: TEam one can have 10 low Elo player and 2 high and the other team just avrg Elo player. In that case Team one will most likely die.. Elo doesnt works as a Ranking System- That means that you can have many newbees in your team while you play since a few years.

Ignore the comments about weight, because we all know weight is not implemented right now. Elo will put you in 1 of 3 tiers.

Walkthrough:
  • A solo player can still select which Game Mode they wish to drop into.
  • Upon clicking Launch, the player is bucketed into one of 3 tiers based on their Elo score. 0-1000 = Tier 1. 1001-1500 = Tier 2. 1501-2800 = Tier 3. (Keep in mind, these thresholds will be tuned as we monitor games being played.)
  • The now Elo Ranked Player is put into the Match Maker queue and their Mech’s Weight Class is recorded.
  • The Match Maker now looks for any games available that have room for the player’s Mech Weight Class and are in the same Elo tier.

It should be active, but without 3/3/3/3.
