But at least they are not EA. Seriously, I just spent 12 hours troubleshooting Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare for a simple database problem where they screwed up the date making me too young to play the game. The won't fix the problem until I fax them proof of age and it will take 2 days after that for them to fix.

I am happy that even with the mistakes PGI works hard at trying to get us back in action if we encounter a problem and a simple database adjustment just takes an email or two to support to get us on our way again. EA doesn't even take emails, you either have to call, fax or text chat.

Isn't that a game for children? What's the age rating on plants vs zombies garden warfare?

A software company that uses fax?

More to the point, why exactly are you playing an EA game?

I would never touch an EA game again, but my son bought it with his own money. And the age rating is 10+ but I find it invasive that they are deciding what is or is not appropriate for my own child in the first place as those ratings are just a guide for parents.

I had problems with Assassins Creed (gift from my sister) and when I got in contact with Ubisoft they accused me of piracy - there are much worse companies than PGI out there. :)

This bit confused me though.

Yes, it is a guide - a way for parents to see whether a game has anything in it they do not want their kids exposed to - but how do you mean it is invasive? :P

Yes, complaints about MWO are getting stale.

Let's now use the MWO Forums to complain about other games.

What if EA and Jarhead Games PGI joined forces?

The fact that they wont let "him" play because they are forcing him to prove his age, instead of just letting him play the game.

Personally, if I had to work that hard to get a game working, I'd be returning it... :P

Is it any worse than a school sending a kid into suspension because he ate a gummy bear? It was because the kid was "too fat". The other kid who handed him the gummy bear (who was skinny) was fine and didn't get into any trouble...

Parents being able to make decisions about how to raise their own kids are slowly being taken away from them. (Probably because more and more parents are either being lazy about taking care of their kids, or aren't caring for their kids. So the government/school/companies feel they have to instead...)

Comparing a company to EA already means the said company is pretty darn miserable.

PGI's support is one of the best I've encountered so far. Well played, PGI! :)

Being compared to EA is like Godwins Law - this is the internet - you wont find a company that hasn't had that comparison made at some point.

Not Nintendo
Not Sega
Not BioWare

None of them.

Do they require that "proof of age"* garbage for PvZ?

*to prove you are old enough: tell us your birthday! be honest now!

Only games I have had trouble getting to run have been MWLL and (on newer PCs) MW2.
Even Assassins Creed technically ran well (just had a bug in the tutorial -- but that is probably for another topic)

I can imagine it was rather frustrating though. :P

He has to, apparently, send in proof of his age as they don't believe he is over the age of 10...?

MW2 didn't work on my Vista machine at all... maybe it will on my Windows 8? That would be nice.

So they think you're 9? Surely any sane human can tell the difference between an adult and a nine year old with a simple phone call and not require actual faxed documents. You're quite right that it is not for game companies to hard-lock games to user's age, and even more dumbfounding for them to require such long delays and archaic methods for proving you are not, in fact, a fourth grader.

Just because something else is worse doesn't mean we have to be satisfied with what we've got. You go tell hobos to be happy with their current life cause they aren't hobos with cancer.

In all seriousness I rather doubt that is it.

By law (in the USA anyways) they are only required to check that on M or "higher" ratings for games.

EA used to be way out in front when I first joined MWO, but over the past 18 months MWO has made a serious effort to alienate many of their long time supporters and has gained ground.

I Love the franchise, but I can't say the same for it's direction or the Developers.

Yup.

Just the other day I seen a thread(not here) where someone said that Firaxis is "the new EA". Firaxis! I mean, what the hell??
