So you're saying that you want the map specialists working on...Clan stuff. Like...Clan maps?

If the map specialists can only churn out 1 map every 3 months (and you're assuming they aren't assigned to other stuff, so you're saying they are doing nothing right now??), then why would you suggest that they make more maps before other people start working on CW?

You are getting your positions confused. Either there is a dedicated map team that only works on maps at a rate of 1 every three months, or they do other things too and you have to prioritize their work.

Dedicating resources to allowing player created maps to be used in private matches shouldn't happen until after CW. Especially if those maps can't be used in CW anyway.

I think something has to give. PGI cannot hope to simulate a universe of hundreds of worlds with ten (hopefully) maps. I am indifferent about CW at the moment I cannot see how it will improve the gaming experience.

I would be far happier with being allowed to play on user made maps in private matches. I would like to see a toolkit that allowed us to use only the objects currently in the game. The idea being that they are already optimized. Good maps would gain notoriety, bad maps would fall by the wayside. With the understanding that "good" or "bad" is all relative. There would no doubt be silly amateur maps that would be super-fun to play, and beautifully intricate system busting maps that would exclude players with low end machines. Somewhere in there would be some undeniably great maps that could hopefully be added to the live game. In the end it would only add the variety that so many of us are longing for.

I know the community would put in ridiculous man hours creating maps looking for nothing more than to add to the game/title they love, and maybe a token of recognition. Let us, help you, help us.

Tossing out a few more ideas:

Crystal field - A plain filled with ginormous crystal formations of electronics-grade quartz and other minerals. Because of the ease of harvesting the relatively abundant minerals, the field has a mining facility that has changed hands many times over the course of the succession wars. Relatively warm and arid due to plate tectonics in the region.

Thunder Rift - A glacier lake and cavern surrounded by steppe land dotted with blue shrubbery. (Inspired by one of the early Battletech novels.) temperate on the steppe, while the ice cavern is cooler inside. The lake is deep enough to submerge some of the shorter medium mechs.

Drydock - A recently discovered Star league era construction yard and drydock built into a large asteroid. As the facility is capable of manufacturing both new jumpships and warships, this asteroid base is heavily contested by the various houses. temperatures fluctuate throughout the map, being very hot in direct sunlight, and very cold in the shade.

Spaceport - An exceptionally large spaceport/military base, compete with dropship pads, (some with landed Spheroid dropships.) hangar bays for Aerospace fighters, and fuel tanks. other structures would include terminals, radar towers, and a control tower. fairly warm during the day due to convection, and cool at night.

Boneyard - a heavily cratered debris field surrounding the carcass of a kilometer long Texas Class Battleship that crashed on the planet during the Amaris Coup. temperate climate.

[... Some really amazing stuff / ideas ...]

This sir, is amazing!
We can all describe new maps instead of building or painting a picture!
Very well done, I will edit my OP and let's see if we get some more fresh ideas

You are most welcome, just hope we get a few more nice ideas around here ;)

Is it to much to ask to describe a few maps that can be used in the future?
Something along the line of what Vanguard319 did?

Whats stopping people from making maps now?
In all honesty.

Map/Creation

Take a look at our planet & start there, Then consult the MechWarrior lore.

Hey PGI, let us use community maps in private matches. Thanks!

How would that work? Everyone who joins the match would need to download all the art assets and map data - hundreds of megabytes - before they could play?

Of course! What better place to fight in than in front of the genetic archives?

Contributing a few idea of my own:

The Cache
An old Star League era cache has been discovered in the highlands. Tall, green mountains with level plateaus, winding mountain roads, and a single, massive door into a mountain. Excavation equipment and rubble still litters the area around the door. But the archeologists didn't even get time to get the door open before two forces descend on the area, each determined to make it their own.

The Old Lake
Old terraforming efforts established a sparkling lake, and with it a rich lakeside village. Those days are gone, as the fall of the Star League took with it the technology sustaining the lake and saw the lake evaporate away into the atmosphere. Now all that's left are boarded up old houses, the skeletons of ships, and the dry, cracked lake bed.
