can't set this up in the games menu so is it possible to set it up in the user.cfg?

so like MW UP = zoom in (+ advanced zoom if equiped) and MW DOWN = zoom out

I have a Razer mouse. In the Razer synapse software you can remap your buttons and mouse wheel functions. I have scroll wheel roll up and down to keyboard funtion "z" (zoom) and scroll wheel button click to keyboard function "v" (advanced zoom)

hopefully this helps someone

This is a tip from Waddehaddedudea:s guide to mwo.

To date (May 2013) it is not possible to bind a mouse wheel via the game settings menu.
There is a workaround though:
 start the client, hit the options and assign a new, unused key, in the “Alt Key Map”
column to your desired function (e.g.: “lbracket” and “rbracket” for “Weapon Group Highlight Left/Right”)
 close the game and navigate to your pilot folder within your MW:O directory (e.g.: “D:\Mechwarrior Online\USER\Profiles\WaddeHaddeDudeda”)
 open up the “actionmaps.xml” with notepad (right mouse button, “open with”)
 hit the search function (“LCTRL” + “F”) and search for the keys you have assigned to your desired functions beforehand
 when you have found the according entries (“lbracket” and “rbracket” in our example) replace them with the following commands:
 mwheel_up
 mwheel_down
 close the “actionmaps.xml” file, fire up the game and do the “I’m so happy dance” because now your mouse wheel should be working
 obviously you can assign any desired function to the mouse wheel, the above one was just a very common example

May I point you to this thread: http://mwomercs.com/...wo-game-client/

Q: May I modify the game XML files?

A: No. We have allowed modifications to XML files in the past, specifically for joystick control during the Closed Beta period. As of March 19, 2013 we have added analog joystick support to the client; these XML file modifications should no longer be required. All customization options that are not within the MWO game client options should only be performed in the user.cfg file as discussed above. Again, these modifications are not supported by Support.

I had just posted the very same solution that xxHAxx suggests above when I (for some reason) decided to check out the code of conduct and found out that modifying .XML files is not allowed. So I deleted my post.

I admit I've used the method described above up to now, but will obviously reset my files to their unmodified state immediately.

(I'm sure going to miss proper mouse wheel zooming, though... ;) I hope a patch will make it possible to fix this through the in-game menu soon!)

may have to dig back into auto hot key programming...haven't used it since the BF2142 days so I could have a toggle crouch.

here is another silly question.

so right now I have keypad + and - as zoom in and out and my middle mouse button also seems to cycle the zoom.

the keypad zoom in will get me into 4x mode but the mouse button wont.

My bad. I had no idea it wasn't allowed.

I wrote an app to fix this.

Note that simply binding zoom in / out to mouse wheel will NOT be optimal (esp with adv zoom), you also need to limit zoom commands to no quicker than 200ms apart.

See sig for link

My solution is AHK based.
If you need a toggle for MWO (eg for TAG), see "Fire Control" link in sig.

MMB will be bound to "cycle zoom", which does NOT include adv zoom.
Keypad +/- will be bound to "zoom in" and "zoom out" which DOES include advanced zoom.
