Well it lookse like we are getting the S variant. Now the question for me is are they going to leave on the jump jets? If so I will probably get the mech. Wish they would let us know for sure.
Alt. Config. S A highly maneuverable urban combat configuration of the Timber Wolf, the S mounts five jump jets, allowing it to jump up to one hundred and fifty meters. To offset the inaccuracy from using jump jets, the S configuration is armed with a Large Pulse Laser backed up by two Medium Pulse Lasers. The S configuration also carries four SRM-6 launchers and two Machine Guns, making it a deadly close combat fighter.

Why wouldn't we? That's the defining characteristic of the variant.

"Hey Clan Pack Buyers! You get the Timber Wolf S, but no jumpjets!"

*Cue lynch mob.

Yeah, they aren't that stupid.

I'm not really sure why they would pick the S if they intended to strip the jump jets.

My only concern is this: Where does this put the Summoner? I mean, I was never a fan of the Summoner, but having a 75 ton jump capable mech with 30% more room for weapons and maxed armor stock seems to outclass the 70 ton mech.

That said, I am really happy the S is here, as I can make my ideal Timber Wolf. 2 ERPPC, 4 ERMLas, 24 DHS, 3 JJ, using Prime arms and left torso, and S everything else.

BishopSteiner! Looks like that commission was close to the mark after all! Just the 4 torso lasers are split in the torso and arms is all. And no TarComp or ECM. XD

Any one who thought that Cataphract 3Ds where anoying are going to hate this. Even more so when you consider you can put any set of arms on this thing. And wile I don't know the location of the JJ's, if the hard points are in the side torsos, you will be able to make any Timberwolf a Jumper. Just became the best mech in the game if the misile pods go poof when you remove the missiles from them like all other mechs implemented so far.

Oh Summoner, with your 3 measly hard points and non-exclusive JJs, why does PGI hate you so? It will be the Thunderbolt all over again.

Clan mechs...especially the Timber Wolf...are going to be slightly better than IS mechs.

That's why they should (and will) probably treat them as being heavier than they are. For example, a Timber Wolf should probably count as an IS Assault as far as matchmaking is concerned.

Well they have not included jump jets in the past on mechs that were supposed to have them.

By the way I do not want it for jump sniping. I want it because they nerfed by Victor AC20, SRM fast jumping brawler into the ground. And this might be close. B)

Funny, despite me wanting to pair the S with ERPPC, I do not want it for jump sniping either. I love the mobility and hitting from unexpected angles. Poptarting is boring, but having the option in my backpocket cannot hurt, quiaff?

I think we are missing some points about the JJ in relation to Summoner Vs Timber Wolf. All the variants of Summoner have 5 JJ, right now we are thinking they are all locked, but they might allow some of them to be unlocked. Who knows. As for the Timber Wolf S, we don't know where the parts are located, if they are locked, and what else is attached to those piecs (mandatory DHS etc). So I don't think every Timber Wolf will have JJ, depending on what builds are possible with the S parts.

2 ERPPC (Clan ones, that do 15 damage each)
2 UAC 5's
JJ's

Yeah, this'll be funny.

Just to be clear here:
This is a AC40 jagermech that has no ghost heat, can jump, and can dump its alpha onto you from like 600m. lolz

Yeah, this'll be funny.

You won't have the tonnage for that. Mad Cats have 27.5 tons of pod space...if you strip some leg armor you can go up to 28 tons.

2 CERPPC = 12 tons
2 CUAC/5 = 14 tons

That brings you up to 26 tons of weaponry, giving you 2 tons to use on jump jets and ammo and heatsinks. Good luck! B)

Swap the UAC5's for an LBX 10 with slug rounds then. That frees up 4 tons.

How long has it been since missiles were 'brutal'? This is obviously not the 'good' variant.

That sounds much more viable.

Maths:
2 CERPPC = 12 tons
1 CLBX 10 = 10 tons
3 tons of LBX slugs = ...3 tons obviously
You'll probably want 2 JJs...
And you have 1 ton left over that can be used on a third jet or a 16th double heatsink (15 are hardwired to the chassis).

Thank you. This is what I have been saying. People see the oodles of hard points and forget you still need to fight basic arithmetic. Small pod space allotments limits our payload if we go ballistics. Not so much with energy and missile, however.

Not entirely true. The stock configuration of the S has 1 JJ in the CT, 2 in each side torso. The earlier Dev post stated that JJ will be treated as hardwired IIRC. I need to double check that source. At least in the case of the Summoner, regardless of anything, they are considered fixed equipment. It might not be in the Timber Wolf S.
