Well typically PPC mechs don't have all THAT many PPCs, right? I mean, the Awesome is unusual in that regard, and the Warhawk even more so (plus it's a Clan mech). OTOH they did race PPC base heat, right?... Well, even so.

I was thinking of my K2. It was my favourite mech in closed beta :)

It's not about the number of PPCs so much as it is about the relatively efficiency of our heatsinks. As a very terrifying example, there was a certain Clan assault mech in TT with 30 DHS that could wield quadruple Clan ER PPCs and never have heat to worry about. Ever. Never-ever-ever-ever.

But in MWO, 20 DHS are quite heavily taxed by just a pair of ERPeeps.

Yeah for a while i turned my K2 into a K3 (ERPPC's and 20DHS) but after the heat went back up i found they weren't really viable anymore so went back to PPC's :)
Even with 20DHS i can only fire standard PPC's a few times before needing to hide and cool down.

If you fired 4 ERPPCs in tabletop though they all hit random locations and the damage was dispersed across your target. Thats why I think PPCs should do arcing damage in MWO, because it would emulate the damage dispersion from tabletop.

There are dozens of stock mechs that boat 3-4 ERPPCs and/or Gauss. Its not really all that uncommon. Although most of them dont happen to be in the game right now ( the Masakari with its stock loadout of x4 CERPPCS is being added soon). Will be kindve funny watching people play stock Masakaris.

My concern would be if Stock Match got develop for the game, we might end up with Public Stock Match and Premium Stock Match.

Public: only trial champion allow
Premium: all mechs but with a "convert to stock" button

@Hellcat Well, it would be a Tech Level 1 mode, but you are correct... it would defeat the purpose of a stock only mode. If we're going with stock Mechs, can I take the Cataphract 3D as my Mech, with the Ultra AC/5 and LB 10-X AC? I like my chances against Mechs with single heat sinks and level 1 weapons. Won't people just select the Mechs with double heat sinks and other upgrades that would help them thump level 1 tech designs? I figure that would defeat the whole purpose of the stock only mode.

3025-only is even better and solves any number of issues such as this particular arms race, which would be the obvious "new meta" of this mode.

Mostly yes, there will always be "the better 'Mech". But what if you have to run what you're randomly given, perhaps? What if you, like the Marines, have to "make do"? Jagermechs have 6 ton(ne)s of armo(u)r... Good luck! Low ammo amounts also a problem.

There is a balance to be found, however, though it requires vision. Letting everyone customize everything and have access to everything all the time with no consequences and no variation leads to the finding of "BMBB (Best 'Mech, Best Build)" combinations and such. With every stock 'Mech's having FUNDAMENTAL "flaws" (which are in fact nuances intended to handle other situations than we face in Mechwarrior games, typically, such as infantry, tanks, aircraft -- Jagermechs are anti-air platforms, not anti-'Mech/tank where they would need the armour more). The Thunderbolt SHOULD be a VERY powerful Heavy: weapons that can take any threat at basically all ranges, anti-infantry point-defence MGs also, and yet not dominant here because balance is punished, total specialisation is rewarded, and that turns the game into rock-paper-scissors.

Anyway, yes there are issues, but playing our BT-favourites (for those of us who know what BT is about) would be fantastic and would likely bring back MANY lost souls -- including myself).

I would love a stock only mode.

This is great too see all the responses and ideas being thrown around. All ideas as I said are welcome. the more voices we have the more we can show PGI This is something the dire hard or even casual community would like. I noticed there would be some kinda of minor issues say the ammo or the armor and ghost heat but this are minor things that I am sure its not hard too ensure in the game via the right settings so keep on posting people.

Just remember even in stock mech ques there will always be mechs that are simply just better then others. The reason why units in CBT were so diverse was the simple fact that they piloted whatever the unit had available. Or if they were rich enough a family hand me down mech.

Don't forget the other reason. You piloted what the House gave you when you joined X House Mech unit.

A curious note, regarding the double armor. They also gave us 20% (I believe, correct me if I am wrong) more ammo for each weapon, compared to TT, so increasing ammo should not be necessary. Remember too, that all damage will still be pinpoint, so in fact, this game is actually balanced, for Tech 1 Stock games. It's only when customisation and Tech 2 get involved, that all sense of balance goes out the window.
