This problem doesn't actually apply to me, and it doesn't matter that it can be worked around. I'm just criticizing a poor design decision from a standpoint of common sense.

I almost never use the override or power-up functions. I don't care to operate at maximum efficiency. Most of my many overheat shutdowns are usually deliberate, whether to attempt a kill shot, or to get one last shot off when I'm facing certain death.

That button is as good as running out of bounds, you might get 1 more alpha out and then you die.
