Just up the damage to 1.4 damage per pellet.
That's the necessary change.

And then change it again once Clan Weapon are introduced with another round of weapon balancing.
Can't everyone just wait for Clan to come out before suggesting any new weapons, changes, etc.?
How can anyone balance anything without everything present and tested by the community?

Personally I don't want to sit there switching between ammo types.
Then don't load any solid shot. Voila, you got your shotgun without any switching whatsoever.
That was hard?
LB-X were supposed to be that way from day 1, it's how they function. There ARE weapons that fire cluster only, but that's the Silver Bullet Gauss (basically, an LB-15X) in the current timeframe and they haven't added it to the game yet.

Considering the weapons current performance 1.2 would be good enough.
Either that or if they could make it do more damage per pellet to areas that get hit with less of them. Say double for a single pellet hitting that area of the mech and then scaling down linearly from there.
Of course that suggestion would probably make PGI's programmers expel their brains out their nostrils.

Actually, that just means you have a half-functional LB-X. Give it the alt-fire option for solid shot, which is what's supposed to have had since day 1. You now have a gun that can properly hole-punch and critseek through the holes it can now actually make.
