As the bay doors opened between two of the huge landing claws and an egress ramp lowered with a clang to touch the ferrocrete landing slab, two figured walked smartly to the base of the ramp. Both wore similar dark-grey jumpsuits, but across the shoulders was simple yellow-gold piping and on the short, no quite mandarin style collars, pips of rank that denoted each Mechwarrior’s position. The shorter of the two carried four simple gold bars along his neck and no other adornments. The second, clearly someone with Elemental genes in his bloodline, towered over his superior, and along his neckline, barely visible were the two black fangs denoting a Kyrgyz.
With no signal given, as the massive warrior stepped forward and his right foot touched the slab of ferrocrete just forward of the ramp, the formation of Mechwarriors snapped from a position of parade rest, to one of attention, staring at the warrior to their front. As the left followed right, placing the Kyrgyz exactly one footfall past the ramp, he began to speak to the assembled force.
“Your Trials of Position will not occur here on Sheridan, Adders. We have few enough warriors and less time than is optimal. These ships launch today. This mission is unlike any Star Adders have undergone before, and thus we take the unusual step of taking only volunteers.”
The gravel voiced warrior paused, looking down from the ferrocrete slab at the assembled mass with a look that might have been disdain or simple bemusement. It was difficult to tell. Regardless, he had their rapt attention.
“Your Trials will take place en route. Many of you will not pass, but you will not be wasted. If you volunteer, you will fight for this Galaxy, regardless of your standing.”
Regarding each of them in a swift pass with his eyes, locking eye contact if only for a fraction of a second, he ended,
“Of that you can be most certain. Glory awaits all who fire forward on this path, but only we few may ever know of it.”

Theta Galaxy of Clan Star Adder, the “Smoke Adders” are opening recruiting for a limited time.
In competitive play, we strive to win at all (legal) costs and to play in a disciplined manner. It is a team sport and no amount of individual talent can really change that, so we expect members to harness their best efforts and fight hard within the team when we drop in formal competition.
In casual play, we just play to have fun. No leadership requirements, no Mech requirements, no specified weapon systems etc. Run what you want to have fun in and enjoy the drops with our group.
We are an inclusive group that strives to maintain quality over quantity so our recruiting time-frame will be limited. In preparation for Commuity Warfare, we envision fleshing out our Galaxy with competent, mature pilots who want to have a good time and get better at the same time (the two do not need to be a mutually exclusive thing).
We schedule most events to occur near 9pm EST traditionally (our tournament matches and formal practices) and typically have people online from 6pm - midnight or later EST and more on the weekends. We have players from all across NA, some in the UK and even one currently in Afghanistan. So please bear in mind timezone availability when you consider us.
You can read about our membership tenets HERE.
More on our Trial of Position and how it fits into our membership process HERE.
And a handy FAQ page with some recurring questions, HERE.
We do ask that hopeful applicants have at least three hundred-fifty (350) drops under their belt before applying. We realize that is a significant number for many, but it also helps to do several things: shows who is truly vested in playing and getting better at the game, you have undoubtedly learned some of the game’s nuances and hopefully by that point you understand the value of teamwork in a game such as MWO.
If you are under 350 drops, feel free to consider us and come by for drops to get to know the organization. While you are dropping with Smoke Adders, you can get a feel for whether we are the right kind of unit for you and vice versa, while working up to that drop number.
While we have a private Mumble Server, we typically use the Comstar NA Teamspeak to play with friends from outside of the unit, so feel free to drop in with us there in the Smoke Adders channel:
